    To get back on track:

My wife would like to know what's holding up LMNHD? If we can get LifeHD and the undesirable HallHD (as well as the unavailable-to-us Hallmark Movies HD), what's the problem with LMN?

Curious....other than Mad Men...what other HD series programming do you anticipate on AMC HD, assuming it shows up some time in the near term?

Rubicon is new and coming soon. Breaking Bad is renewed for next season, too.

No one here knows or can answer. Maybe LMNHD is the undesirable channel.

If we could get around another 10-15 national channels, more movie channels in HD, a few Comcast Sports Networks in HD, and more HD LiLs the natives won't be restless. But if that happens, what will we want next???

    Thanks.

I was looking to see if they brought a full-time or part-time HD lineup aboard.

I suspect part of the challenge in negotiating new HD channels is weighing the perceived value by the content provider vs their proposed transmission cost per subscriber. That holds true for any channel.

    Agree paulman.

IMO that's the best chance for long term survival. Merger.

I know different Movie Studios, and Differing agreements and Contracts.

That said, I culd see a future that had about 2-3 Premium Movie Providers with plenty of content. Sprinkle in some Original Unique Programming and that might survive for the next decade or longer.

OK, Let's continue this conversation in five years. Until then back to the anticipation of new HD on the DirecTV system.

    I hope to see

    AMC
    TCM
    BBCA
    FMC
    CSPAN 1&2

In the next wave, though sadly I'll not be holding my breath for the last entry.

What kind of a 50" TV do you have?? I have a 50" Panasonic plasma and they look pretty awful on it. They could look MUCH better if DIRECTV would lay off on the excessive compression and bit-starving that they've been doing for a long time.

    I have a 50-inch Hitachi SDTV (projection).

The SD channels look considerably worse on my 46-inch LCD... though some channels are better than others.

Still... they look MUCH BETTER than they did prior to D7 being launched. Some of the SD channels looked terrible even on the 50-inch back then...

OK...but large screen SDTV projection screens are becoming few and far between these days and can't be realistically compared to what most folks are currently viewing. I remain firm in my opinion that DIRECTV's current SD is quite bad and should be a concern for them, although it apparently isn't.

It looks pretty good on my 20-inch SDTV as well...

I've seen the SD on my Grandmother's 32-inch HDTV as well... and it looks alright...
