Perhaps the topic should be renamed DirecTV's lack of wanted programing!

I'd have to agree with this poster as well. I'm happy with D*, but there needs to be improvements made in the HD content. For months, we heard that once D-12 was up and running, we would be getting much HD content. While I appreciate some of the recent upgrades, there's still much that can be added that is important to more than just a few viewers. It's time to get it done, D*!

I’m really hoping DIRECTV adds Lawn Bowling HD for $14.99 a month. This way they can pad their numbers and be the Lawn Bowling sports leader.

    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)
    National HD (AMCHD, BBCAHD)

The new season of Top Gear would sure be nice in HD on the "HD leader"

    :beatdeadhorse:

    We there yet?

None of GSN's "library" game shows were filmed on 35mm. Either they were videotaped, or they were kinescoped (basically, a 16mm camera was aimed at a live TV monitor). There's no way to coax HD resolution out of either of those.

However, more recent game shows -- including some of GSN's original shows -- have been produced in HD.

Near as I can tell this is how the national HD channels shake out. I threw this together to see what I wanted that DirecTV was missing. There are channels on these lists I've never heard of. Mostly on the Dish only list but that makes sense since I've never had Dish.

Personally, out of the "Dish but not DirecTV" list below I would love to see AMC, BBC America, NFL RedZone, & DIY Network in HD. If we get those channels then my list of channels that I actually watch will be full. YMMV. ;)

Looks pretty good and matches what I have on my page ( http://jameslong.name/hdcount.html - except I don't track the sports package channels for the NFL/NHL/NBA/MLB/MLS/NASCAR).

You must like ESPNews and ESPNU a lot to list them twice. :)
The Movie Channel Xtra (East) is also not carried by DISH.

It should be noted the the NFL RedZone you list is the NFL Network's RedZone not the NFL package RedZone. Some may argue that DirecTV has that channel when in reality both services have a different version.

There's already a thread for a side-by-side comparison, ask Hoosier about it. This is the "I want (fill in the blank) HD on DirecTV. When are we getting it?" thread.

The channels marked in red are the channels I care about on each provider. I can technically take or leave Epix, Epix 2, Indieplex & Retroplex. Though there might be a movie or documentary on Logo, Investigation Discovery, or Centric that interests me from time to time, I left them out due the rarity of that happening, but I marked Sony Movie Channel red even though I believe it will be on DirecTV soon.

Can we move all counting discussions to another thread? There is nothing like saying the same thing for the 17th time yourself in the same thread when others have already said it ten times each.

    Importance of channels? Yes
    Priority of channels? Yes
Screwball math that applies to one person's preferences? No

The thing is, MicroBeta wasn't counting...

That being said, I agree with you. I couldn't care less who has the most channels...

I wasn't counting. I was merely comparing to decide what I wanted to see carried by DirecTV. There is not a single number in my post nor did I mention who had the most. I don’t even know what the counts are because I haven’t checked that.

Just because it’s a list doesn’t mean it’s a channel count. If anyone is actually paying attention you’ll notice there are no locals, PPV, or RSNs in that list so it’s invalid for comparing channel counts. I simply used that list to see what was out there because I really didn’t know everything that was available. I thought others might like to see it also. Let go of the count thing because that’s not what it is and let’s discuss the national HD channels.

Now getting back to what’s missing that I’d like to see; I left one out. I’d like to see TCM in our lineup.

I think History International is kinda redundant. I haven’t seen anything unique to History International and unless I’ve missed something it’s all been shown on the History Channel. Does anyone know of anything that’s unique to History International?

I suppose HBO Comedy/Family/Signature might have the occasional movie that I’d like to see but it seems to be all stuff I’ve already seen. From that perspective it’s not that important to me.

I haven’t seen Nat Geo Wild. Is there any unique programming not seen on Nat Geo?

Why? Since it's not about channel counts I think it's relavent.

    Mike

Two more Wednesdays remain in September (22 and 29).

Usually one Wednesday has the TEST channel(s) and the next has "live". I think we've also seen just a few days between TEST to "live".

Right now, nothing new/recent on D12 in TEST.
