Agreed! I used to have a job in which the place that I worked took credit cards, and I would have to take the card into a room to do the transaction. I would never be the type to do so, but everytime I brought it into that little room, I thought about how easy it would be for someone to copy all the information down. It's SCARY...

Of course, I know two people who had their cards used last year by people using random numbers, and of course one person who had their credit card used because a bartender at a strip club entered in the wrong last digit on some man's credit card.

I didn't really want AUTO-PAY, but with how easy it is for things like the above to happen, I wasn't going to pass on $240.

The correction can be made following a simple phone call. Regardless, if a simple billing issue is enough to choke out the customer's checking account or credit card balance...there are larger issues at play. In the end, these concerns are based on extremely rare occurrences. You must also avoid riding in a car or flying in a plane as well.

As you can see I have been a DirecTV customer since 1995. I have always payed my bill on time with a Postal Money Order. When the "push" was on to get customers to convert to autopay with free HD for life my payment was not recorded as being received. "Three" phone calls with CSR's and their supervisors failed to resolve the issue. Only after speaking with retention did my payment show up as being received on time! So much for a correction being made with a "simple" phone call. As for flying in a plane I earned Master Jump Wings in the Army and am HALO and LALO certified with combat jumps! Riding in cars is for the faint at heart!

Haha...you are not usually this random. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, as we all have those days. Computer hackers, Vietnam, combat jumps, MasterCard, and an unnoticed six month long bank issue...we've been all over the map today. How any of this relates to DirecTV and autopay, we may never know. :D

On the positive side I was given quite a deal for their billing error!

I wonder when DirecTV will stop taking checks and money orders? I'll guess within 5 years and if people don't have a credit or debit card, they have to use something like Western Union's bill pay service.

There are few reason why someone would not at least have access to a debit card, let alone a credit card. If they didn't qualify for either, they would probably have trouble qualifying for DirecTV's service as well.

Thought that was a requirement for new customers?

You are paying with a postal money order? Gee, how 1950s of you. I give up. You are living with a bunker mentality on money. All because one bank made a mistake 30 years ago.

BTW, I've seen stories of folks who get a billing error with DirecTV who don't pay it and they had issues if it was not resolved in time. Aren't you worried about that? Yet if you pay with a credit card or a debit card, you can get the issuing bank on your side with legally defined dispute mechanisms.

Do you send the money order registered mail? Return receipt requested?

Two pages of discussion on the merits and dangers of autopay. Before that it was repeated posts using the photo of a crying girl to attack opposing views.

PLEASE put this thread out of it's misery. I'd say get it back on track, but what's the point?

This thread only has two days left anyway. Anticipation will pick back up when the Q4 thread is started by Stuart.

some channels don't even do 5.1 or have fake 5.1.

as for subs you can get them with a AM-21

the guide today is better then the comcast one.

east / west is nice but more channels in HD is better then the same shows just 3 hours later with some live stuff doubled up on both east and west in HD.

I dont like autopay either, I prefer to donate the $10 more a month. That is how much I hate autopay.

Satracer?!?!? Whats the good word? Any HD in the next month? sheesh...

I don't post much here since whining about what we want vs what D* will give us is a futile experience. That said I am whining about BBCA, they seem to be broadcasting stuff, Top Gear for example, in a 14:9 ratio which when it comes over on sd is very small with pillar top, sides and bottom. Since they have started broadcasting the entire 1 hour BBC show uncut, 1:15+ with commercials on BBCA, I am really wanting hd BBCA.

I'd only add CW-HD to the Million Man AMC-HD/BBCA-HD March.

Having just seen Gossip Girl for the first time in HD on my iPad, I just realized it's criminal not to be getting it in HD for the $150+ I spend every month.

D* isn't just coming up against cable and E* HD content-wise...digital downloads in glorious HD on HD chennels D* refuses to bring us are bringing lots of folks closer than ever to Dumping the Dish.

A D* customer since 1993, I'm getting seriously fed up with D* treating its customers like crap. I have no doubt their beancounters with the green eyeshades are happy limiting their carriage in this way. And probably have some date set deep in 2011 to bring one or two of these channels, only when it's financially advantageous for them to do so. Screw the customer.

As for me, like so many others, I'm exploring all the options, and they're looking better and better every day.

And when their retention monkeys offer me 3 free months of Starz to keep my biz, I've already rehearsed my response. It's definitely NSFW.
