When the first HD channels launched there was one (Universal HD???) that showed the NBC Olympics coverage over and over and over again. It was a staple of their programming schedule for years.

It'll probably be the same with 3D, if not worse. It was a fairly straightforward process to get theatrical movies into HD format, but 3D content mostly has to be all new content. Nobody's going to take Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures and convert it to 3D. (no matter how cool that would be...)

You're more optimistic than I am... I just meant that it appears they have a decent relationship... ;)

    Ditto! :(

Look at it like this though... maybe we'll have BBC America HD in time for the Christmas special! ;) :)

Though HD channels had been around for several years prior, you're thinking of BravoHD+ which later turned into UniversalHD.

As for the rest of your quote above... have you LOOKED at the schedule for n3D?! ;) :D

WHOA!! That WOULD be cool...

There are 7 open transponders on D12, and TP 20 has 5 test channels. There is also one additional test channel on TP18. And not all of the transponders are completely full.

Up to 47 potential HD channels if I'm counting correctly. :)

Does anyone think that AMC-HD will be one of the 47 in time for the "Mad Men" season premier on 7/25 ?

Not true, non-PPV channels make them lots of money. As in, we are all paying for them. They just do not like that they have to add channels and cannot charge us more for them.
Profit margins do not equal an excuse. PPV is just greedy money, considering that we all have to pay just for the right to watch PPV movies, which most of us do not use.
The fact is that we are all paying customers and deserve what we pay for.

Well... at least we agree on ONE part of your post... :D

I haven't purchased PPV in years... nor do I intend to at any time in the future. I'm OBVIOUSLY not DirecTV's target audience... but then, given DirecTV's focus on sports, I've known that for some time.

DirecTV has a new satellite giving them a nice amount of bandwidth. They are currently using SOME of that bandwidth for 8 PPV channels. While I'd rather those 8 spots have gone to NATIONAL channels, considering that DirecTV has YET to fill a considerable amount of the bandwidth on D12, I have NO problem with the PPV added at this time, nor do I see why anyone should.

We should probably wait until the rest of the satellite is full before complaining about PPV... ;)

Yeah... I think the "etc." was supposed to include other shows like:

    "Dead Like Me"
    "Stargate SG-1"
    "Jeremiah"
    "Odyssey 5"
    "The Tudors"

    ... as well...

Personally, I enjoyed the first two a lot! :)

I'm pretty much in accord with what you have to say.

I'm trying REALLY hard to suppress my pessimism and intend to back off until it becomes clear one way or the other.

Out here in rural western Minnesota there are really only two choices. Dish or DIRECTV. Our local phone company Arvig, doesn't really compete on the HD front. There is no cable, no Fios, etc.

I had Dish until 2007. Loved their DVR. Would have stayed with them except for issues with the satellite they were using to deliver HD in the west. I was living near Seattle at the time and got tired of having a 30 inch dish dedicated to one satellite. They have since solved the problem by leasing space on another satellite.

DIRECTV has better HD PQ. That is important to me. They have made big strides in improving their DVRs. The signal is always dependable and I only need 1 dish. I do not miss the ongoing Charlie soap opera of dropping channels over carriage disputes.

I'm rooting for DIRECTV to use the space on D12 wisely.

I know, but I am sure putting Bizarre in my post will surely make someone have one of those "Oh yeah I remember" moments. Now if I could only remember that exercise show it had women in a red bikini type of outfit on a all white rotating stage.

Yeah... I'm in the same boat you are. Dish Network or DirecTV are my only choices.

That being said, for the most part, I don't have a problem with it...

Yeah, I hope that DirecTV manages to catch up with some of the "basic" channels a little more, and I have a few other complaints as well, but overall, I'm VERY happy with them and wouldn't switch if I had the option.

...what are you talking about? Of course we are all paying customers. If we were not, we would no longer be customers. Yes, we all deserve what we pay for. The good news is that we do in fact receive what we pay for. So, what exactly was your point? Which channels are provided, which packages they are offered in, what services/products are given priority, and so on is not up to us unless we are running the business. If we are not happy with the decisions being made, we simply choose another provider. This sense of entitlement is getting out of hand. That for some odd reason...because we pay (insert name of preferred cable/satellite provider) money we are now in a position to make demands...is ludicrous.

Time tells me that new channels usually launch on Wednesdays, and HD feeds usually go live a month or two after the season or event of note has passed.
