As I previously said, I'm in the group that believes 99% of us will be happy with what's PLANNED for D12. That being said, I think that the age of the post isn't relevant...

If the post was referring STRICTLY to the channels already added, I'm apparently in the 1%. ;)

It's very possible... though I would imagine DirecTV would take a serious look at the data they get from their own subscribers...

Though TruTV is in my Favorites... I've never once watched it, and seriously doubt I ever will... short of a complete programming overhaul.

There are certainly quite a few channels whose popularity is seasonal. BBC America scored BIG last year with "Torchwood: Children Of Earth", and G4 probably experiences boosts around convention times...

So who cares about some quote of "99%". If you want to take it literal, please. Plus that does mean literally about 200,000 DirecTV customers would not be happy. I guess a couple of them post here.

    ;)

So much changes ... especially over 9 or 10 months. There are still channels "planned" for D12 that would make people happy (new channels are unlikely to go anywhere else). But due to the age of the posts the recent adds MUST be included when trying to devine whether people will or will not be happy ... and I believe the mark was met. Of all the 18 million DirecTV subscribers who also have HD Access it is likely that 99% of them were happy with the adds made.

There are likely additional channels that will also make people happy - but that doesn't mean that the vast majority were not made happy by the channels already made available. What we are left with is the 1% ... people who probably won't be happy even after their favorite channel is added (if it hasn't been added yet). There is no help for such people.

I "anticipated" that DirecTV would someday have a lot of HR2x boxes available, and would be getting them made cheaply enough so that their cost would be outweighed by the hard-to-reckon cost of maintaining both SD and HD transmissions alongside each other.

Furthermore, "99% of the folks here?" We who complain? That was probably way too optimistic of Satelliteracer, even in September 2009.

    AGREED! :D

You and I are interpreting the statement differently.

I'm interpreting it as saying that over the course of... I don't know... by the end of the year, or sometime next year, perhaps even longer, 99% of us will be happy with what DirecTV has done with the added bandwidth... recent additions included... as well as announced upcoming HD-LIL markets as well...

I think there are still a handful of channels out there that are needed before we get to 99% contentment.

On that view...a number of folks seem to agree...not everyone...but many.

Pleased and content are different levels.

I missed the "here" in this quote ... which does narrow the scope to the thousands of DBSTalk readers instead of the millions of DirecTV subscribers and agree that Satelliteracer may have underestimated the ability of those who post here to be "pleased" by any channel addition. (Although this is once case where I am willing to accept that the silent majority of posters are watching and enjoying the channels instead of arguing about being pleased or not.)

I edited my post slightly to also take into account the number of HD-LIL launches announced for this year and next.

I can say with absolute certainty that those additions will HELP in satisfying a small percentage of those 99%. ;)

Good point. Some measure HD channel success without even considering the leap in HD LIL support (thanks to D11 and D12).

As you know, there are still some folks who have been literally waiting years for local HD channel support. This trek has continued for some time, and those who have routinely received HD locals already tend not to even think about it.

National HD channels are a good thing, and more are both welcome and something to look forward to. HD LILs are no less important to those who don't yet have them.

Look... with the two recent Festivus(es)... I got several channels I wanted... including FIVE of my Top Ten most wanted channels (I voted for in the poll).

Was I PLEASED to get them? Sure!

However, as I said, I'm interpreting the quote differently than you...

Sometimes the amount of "spinning" that goes on here almost makes me dizzy. :)

Perhaps its time to get off the ride if its making you dizzy.

I see alot of good, contrasting, but polite and interesting perspectives on this from many posters. I don't agree with everyone either, but nonetheless...it neither invalidates their comments nor forbids them from having their views.

    In the mean time....anticipate away...

    Cool!

I own the latest model of one of those myself. :D

So back to topic...here's what I anticipate...

4-6 new national HD channels in August...and another batch of 4+ in September.

I would agree also......possible one or two national channels BBC HD or E!, one or two premium channels and one or two remaining RSN ..... have a feeling AMC maybe awhile with other providers having issues getting a contract with them.

    A request to the moderators:

Would it be possible to allow people who clearly know things to have a "closed sticky thread", allowing them to tell us what they know, when they know it?

An anticipation thread is great, but some of us would prefer not to read over 800 posts before a guy like SatelliteRacer finally says something that actually means something.

    An interesting thought ...
This link might help: Posts by Satelliteracer

The general point of this thread is for random anticipation apart from reality. In my humble opinion, if something real happens it would fall under announcement not anticipation.
