    Perhaps.

    No.

According to the information in the DISH vs ESPN lawsuit, DirecTV isn't paying for those ABC/Disney channels and DISH wanted the same price (pulling contract language out of two other contracts and trying to build their own contract out of three separate documents).

And Nat Geo Wild ... but DirecTV has added other channels. Those channels time will come. It would be nice to see the next 20 added but if it were easy they would already be there.

I'll let the experts at DirecTV make the deals and get the channels up in their own time. They know a lot more about the individual contracts and deals than I do. One just has to have faith.

Where did you read that? I thought the whole "most favored nations" thing had to do with DirecTV and Comcast's contract to carry ESPN U HD.

I was under the impression the other HD channels were a separate issue.

That's the trouble. IIRC DISH wanted to take the "all feeds" language of their ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNHD, ESPN2HD etc contract (which remains in effect) and the "most favored nation" language of the ESPNU contract and apply it to their contracts for ABC Family/Disney/Disney XD and ESPNews.

DISH claimed ABC/Disney promised them all feeds of those four channels. But the "all feeds" language isn't in the contract for those four channels. DISH claimed that DirecTV isn't paying for the HD feeds of the four channels so they shouldn't. But the "most favored nation" language isn't in the language for those four channels. If the language DISH claimed was actually in the contract for the four channels they probably would have one their suit ... but it wasn't - it was pulled from two other contracts.

There is a thread over in the DISH forum with the details and a copy of one of the court filings laying this all out. It is a mess ... but not one that affects DirecTV customers.

Maybe E* didn't ask for the same things D* is asking for. Why doesn't E* have YES? Or the ESPNews in HD right now? Every deal is different.

    (this is completely facetious!)

I know what's happening - all those channels in the upper 300 range (you know, those "public interest" channels) are going HD! Yes, you'll soon see your favorite "family friendly" shows in beautiful HD.

We have a nice shiny new satellite with loads of available bandwidth. Tomorrow is Wednesday. New HD would be nice. :beatdeadhorse:

I'd be happy with "up to" one tomorrow.

Not sure how this works in tv land, but I negotiate a fair number of licensing deals, many, if not all, have clause that says if you grant additional licenses royalties and related have to be financially equivalent. Licensee a can pay more upfront than licensee b, but b pays a higher royalty.

Feeling really bummed now that I've caught up on the last few days worth of posts. There should be some in August? Potentially more after that? I just don't get it.

If you read the past few pages of posts...you would see that having agreements are the primary pre-requisite to adding more HD channels as this point. Some have been signed, with August channels launches, while others are in negotiations. No longer any reason to be "bummed"...enjoy the 150+ HD channels there and look forward to new ones coming soon. ;)

    Bu... Bu.. But HDTV fan

I want every single channel in HD. I pay the HD access fee therfore I'm entitled to them all.:sure:

I also want my Bill to decrease or remain unchanged while we're at it.

Don't you know this is how Dish rolls?

    Sherman...
She's already in HD, albeit only on an occasional basis: she's been on Comedy Central as a "Daily Show" correspondent for a couple of months now.

I understand there may be legit reasons - and not all D* fault - but I'm still bummed. Give me DIY HD and then I'll be happier. Just my $0.02.
