DIRECTV HD Channel Anticipation (Official Q3 2010 Thread)

Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff... in exchange for your being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for new HD all you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the 18,000,000 total subscribers.

Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect, and please do not "bump" this thread. Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.

Personally i dont think we are gonna get more announcements, Dtv will add the channels here and there without any notice, but if we hear anything before that i will be thru Satracer or Sixto, Nat Geo is a great channel but im aN HD HO so i denied to watch SDTV ;)

Man get a PS3 you are future proof with that, it already plays 3D games and next month its gonna get a 3D update for BD
Then I gotta buy a 3D TV. Too expensive. Once they come down to where I can afford them 4D will be the standard. :nono:

I bet we'll get a new list this month. They need to heat up the war with E* again, I loved how intense it was a few months back.

My bad... I remember that... now! ;)

Really?! I can get ANY move I want, when I want it?!

If I want "Star Wars - Episode IV" or "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" in HD, I can get it via Netflix in the next 30 minutes?!

Netflix is a GREAT service... one that is not really convenient for me, but even if it were, I'd see benefits in the premium movie channels as well, just like as much as I find the PPV channels to be overpriced, I too can see certain benefits to them...

If DirecTV decides to add EPIX to the HD Extra package, I will be glad to get it... if they decide not to... well, Gloria Gaynor will have nothing on me...

I can get Star Wars and Raiders added to my queue so they come to my house in the mail in a few days, but can't get them in 30 minutes since they're not available for streaming from Netflix.

And even if/when Netflix sends them to me, they won't be in HD.....because those titles are only currently available in SD.

My whole point, if you want movies, then get Netflix or similar service. That way, you get any movie YOU want when you want.
About half of the movies I watch in HD on the premiums are not available on Blu-ray from Netflix. Priobably not on Blu-ray at all.

Movie fans have an appetite for the obscure, the offbeat, the cheesy, the bad, as well as the mainstream releases.

Sony lost all credibility on that front when they announced the removal of the ability to boot another OS. Imagine how happy the USAF was: they had just purchased several hundred PS3 for a computing cluster using that feature.

Future proof? I think not.
