That would certainly be true if ratings alone drove those decisions.

But another important factor is carriage pricing, which sometimes results in the conflict between perceived value by the content provider exceeding the pricing proposed to a delivery service. Just looking at how Dish recently dropped some channels because they cound not agree on renewal pricing, it impacts all providers. That's a tougher nut to crack IMHO.

Most of the SEC Network games are carried by various RSNs. If you get the Sports Pack during college football season, you can have those games in HD plus several others around the country.

I lived in Mobile while I was going to school. Tough place for OTA reception because of the whole Pensacola thing.

    That's nit-picking... ;)

My point was simply that I expect there to come a day when TV is just TV again.

I've never read anybody overinflate the importance of having a channel or program in HD. This is an ANTICIPATION thread which is used either for ANTICIPATION of ANNOUNCED CHANNELS (GolTV, FSC), or channels they are HOPING to ANTICIPATE for later in the 3rd Quarter. AMC is a very anticipated channel.

In Nashville it's on the CW affiliate whose HD signal is not carried by DirecTV. Fortunately I can receive it OTA. ;)

I assume you meant the MyNetworkTV affiliate? DirecTV carries Nashville's CW in HD.

Sure couldn't tell by the overall ratings for the year. EPIX-HD does not show commerical like AMC

EPIX doesn't have "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad", "Rubicon", "The Walking Dead", "Hell on Wheels", etc....

As for the ratings... check out "What's Hot" on TVApps. AMC makes the Top 5 Movies on DirecTV quite often...

No. The "highest rated show not in HD on DirecTV" remains the highest rated show until it is carried or the ratings drop. The reasons channels are added are irrelevant to whether or not the show is the highest rated show not yet on DirecTV in HD.

Nobody said highest rated, other than in your post, of course.

The statement was that ratings alone didn't drive the channel launches. I stand by that.

Not bad ... it doesn't seem to need the HD bump to be a popular channel. Seems like you're providing proof that people WILL watch SD. :D

Obviously you've transcended reading the statements of others and are simply talking past my points. Kindly do not quote my posts if you're not responding to them. You can find the posts I was responding to in this thread.

Hardly...but since you responded to mine, simply reciprocating.

Besides...it's helping your post padding.

I read the previous comments. I just disagree with part of the view from this side of the house.

I was responding to an entirely different poster than you before you butted in. Yes, I realize that others read such responses in a public thread ... but I hope that others realize that they are not the only ones involved in conversation and it isn't all about what they have been saying.

Of course, now it is ... and I've tried to let you know that my comments were about someone else's posts. If that isn't understood then there is no more to say.

Back to talking about food programs on the travel channel, the popularity of soccer in America and the two tiny festivi coming next month (preferably more about the latter than the first).

Considering there are quite a few people out there with D1x, R1x and R22s, it only proves that the people bypassing the channel due to the lack of an HD simulcast is not enough to hurt it...

Then again... with the exception of SD only people, I can't imagine why anyone would watch AMC aside from their original programming...

And we have established that the crowd here is far from a representative sample. The point is that there is one major indicator for consumer satisfaction: net subscribers. If people are willing to pay that bill or start new service, it indicates happiness in the only tangible way: money.

I'm just going to sit back...watch my many HD channels that I have....and see how this all rolls out over the next month or two.

From this window....all I see is alot of great choices already and more coming.

    It's all good. :)

Although more HD is a good thing. I agree, I’m quite happy with the current HD options we have.

DirecTV programmer skimming thread: "M'god, JL is right! Quick, cancel our ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX HD contracts --we don't need them!"
