I find it very unlikely that many customers will switch for a single channel. Just a guess but I don't see it.

I'd like to see some firm data on this.

Me neither. more would drop it if a channel is lost, like G4 or Versus, and that was still fairly low.

I have been reading this forum for quite awhile yet have not felt the need to post. I do enjoy the information I get here. That being said, I am one of the people who will leave Directv after 8 years if TCM HD is not added before my HD upgrade contract is up in November. I can not watch AMC due to the amount of commercials and my short attention span. By the time the commercial is over I have forgot what the movie was about. I would never begrudge others their channels, but would like to have one commercial free with true classic movies.

Very well said indeed. Come on Directv, give us one commercial free classic movie channel in HD for movies that are not interrupted or altered. My choice is Turner Classic Movies. Show us you're interested in providing quality.

Like most of the previous posts I agree AMC is not a preference .Because of their butchering of the movies they show .I can live with commercials just like on Hallmark and sometimes on MGM with DVR it and just speed thru. Those channels at least show the movie intact and not edited.I mentioned Hallmark because they do have made for original movies that some times my wife and I will watch.I do subscribe to HBO,Showtime& Starz as well as HD Extra Pack but, would enjoy getting TCM or FMC to add to our viewing pleasure.

    Moving right along!

Well, I remember that with the last round of HBO/Cinemax launches, they did launched the test on Monday, and then went live right on Wednesday.

With tom saying the launch might be on the 9th, good chance the test might be on the 7th?

Nope. It's too much of a hassle to change for a single basic HD channel. I'm sure there are SOME that make the change, but in the 1st and 2nd quarter DirecTV was one of the few providers actually gaining customers.

I wonder how many have switched since D* dropped G4 though? Or when Versus was gone for most of the NHL season?

Right you are Joe, I mentioned Turner Classic Movies as my first choice. I'd take FMC too. :)

"You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time. But, you can never please all of the people all of the time" - Lee Iacocca

As the poll on this site indicates, there are a variety of channels that people on these forums want to see added in HD to D*'s lineup. Some ppl only want to see more premiums added, some want more basics, and others want both. D* is a publicly owned corporation, that means they have both shareholders and customers to which they have to please. In the end, D* will add the channels that make sound financial business sense while increasing customer satisfaction with it's lineup. Remember, it takes two to tango and the content providers (Turner, Fox, Disney, etc.) have been attempting to hold service providers like D*hostage by demanding outrageous increases in the per subscriber rates they charge to make up for the losses they've had in advertising revenues during the recession. I can't speak for everyone, but especially when times are tough for so many people I'd rather wait until D* can negotiate a reasonable rate for a channel than have it today at whatever cost.

If you're a customer who's threatening to leave for another provider because your channel or channels weren't added to the lineup by X date or in Y festivus then there's a high likelihood you would not get what you wanted, when you wanted it at some point and leave at that time anyway. I don't work for D* so I don't have access to their info, but I'd be willing to bet that they'd lose more customers to a rate hike than they'd lose in delaying the addition of channels until they can get a reasonable rate for carrying it.

I had to bend and twist arms to get dishes on my roof..and almost forged a letter saying I had access to put on my roof...

See my situation was I was heavily into Fantasy Football and I wanted the NFL Network to which Time Warner has never come to terms..so I went to D* for NFL N...it was a nice perk that slapped along with a 2 yr contract they gave me a reduced rate on my package and NFL Sunday Ticket..

but im diverting...it was my superintendent that was being the hard ass, ***my landlord doesnt care as long as he's getting his rent money and to my surprise i saw dozens of dishes on the roof (more D* than E*)and I called out my super for being a hard ass and was hoping for some type of kickback to allow WHAT WAS ALREADY allowed on the rooftop. To this day I still treat him in a smug type of manner if i need any work done in my apt I call the landord and not him. The only restrictions the landlord put on satellite svce was to not mount the dish on your window sill..Otherwise all is well in Manhattan with my HD LNB on the rooftop.

*** Im well aware most landlords in the 5 boroughs dont share the same sentiment on dishes on the rooftop..

I doubt many switched because of G4. It's not that popular of a channel. Maybe more left for Versus, but even there I don't think that many did.

People just don't leave for one channel. Hell, not even for 15 missing basic HD channels compared to Dish, or half the users in this topic would have been watching Dish for well over a year now.

It was said many times here that we want AMC for their shows, not the movies. Mad Men and Breaking Bad are two of the best series on TV , according to the press. For movies, we already have more than 40 channels in HD, uncut , no commercials and no stretching. You may argue that we actually only want 2 or 3 shows but the same is true for BBC-A (Dr. Who and Top Gear).
I don't disagree with TCM, would also be a welcome addition because it shows movies not available on other channels.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY VIOLATIONS there are on apartment buildings in NYC???
please breaking the law!!!!! hahahaha..and how many violations go on the wayside for a fat envelope of MONEY!! plz!
i'd say only heating, sanitary, poor electric wiring and no hot water or no water at all related violations stand out like a soar thumb...and get you busted.

getting someone to give tickets or fines for dishes on rooftops is as rare as a cop here giving you a ticket for jay walking..amongst other suttleties.

if so every building owner in NYC would be in jail, they'd have to build more jails in NYC to accomodate all of them.. Till then I await the new HD arrivals

    hah
