The biggest piece being that Diredctv can re purpose channels, shrink the number they use for certain things, like say the push channels, and hey, they could always change the amount of channels per transponder too, possibly without even changing the PQ...

Unfortunately, none of us know that info, and even if someone here did, there is no way they could actually say it...

say what? Don't know what I'm not talking about, nor to whom I'm not talking about.

I know when to shutup, you don't need to tell me twice to shutup, I won't say anything else, my lips are sealed, you won't get anything else outta me, cuz I know when to not say nuttin'... :)

Cheers (or did I not say that either?),

Absolutely nothing. I'm just using an educated guess just like every one else here. Using my super secret spidey sense and based on recent actions, I have unwavering faith D* will not add TCM in HD the rest of this year. They will however add 4-5 PPV HD, a channel so far down on the want list it will get the bends when it launches, and a channel no one has heard of.

That's it. I have a very low opinion of D* HD additions of any good basic channels.

    Do you know something different?

So what is the current definition of 'soon' when you don't say that more non-premium/basic HD is coming?:D

I am sure I will be corrected if wrong, but the last action to do with a PPV was to remove one to bring up ShortsHD. They do add and drop them for the sports feeds as needed, and that is not going to change, and I don't think that counts. I certainly understand why there is a sentiment that PPV is worth less to we the viewers than a national HD, but beating the dead horse that they are constantly adding PPV just isn't based in the recent actions.

One instance does not a pattern make. Sh!tsHD is not a basic channel.

We’re still two years away. Sadly, over the next two years, I bet we get less than 5 basic HD channels added. My guess is 3. Unfortunately some of the bigger networks will remain in SD-lite on DIRECTV for at least a few more years. :nono2:

Over the next two years, I'd take that bet. I'm not going to guess the over/under yet, but I'm fairly certain that over 5 before D14 is operational is safe.

    Cheers,
    Tom

In this case, I'd love to be wrong. I'm just going by DIRECTV's track record over the past year.

And if one had looked at the track record the previous year one would just as wrongly conclude DIRECTV was never going to add in the premiums.

Heck, if I look at what DIRECTV did today, I'd be certain DIRECTV would never add a new channel again. :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

Glad DirecTV HD basic isnt in the smoke alarm (Fire or Carbon alarms) business. We'd have alot of defective alarms that wouldnt ring during an incident...but they'd definitely ring soon..........

...and point missed. What PPV have they added recently, discounting the usual add and drop for the special sporting events? There seems to be a steady perception that D* is adding PPV on a monthly basis. Eating all the band width in some insidious plot to deprive us of the fine shows on AMC or BBCA. The number of channels has been steady for some time, decreasing by one being the last real activity.

To expand on the paranoid plot above, it is possible that D* wants you to give up AMC and watch its originals on whatever they are now calling the 101. I think that is better to run with than the battle cry that no new HD is coming because they are going to add more PPV.

So the fourth season of Breaking Bad starts in less than a week and we still do no have AMC in HD. Thanks DirecTV! Here's to another season of waiting to download the HD torrent the day after airing because Directv's AMC standard feed looks like total garbage.

I have my DVR record Breaking Bad. That way, when I see it show up, I remember to go download it on Hd.

    To all AMC fans:

My personal take: If AMC is a critical channel for you, you might as well switch providers. If you are under a 2-yr agreement with Directv, well, you knew back then that AMC HD wasn't offered by Directv and you made a choice to subscribe to Directv. I googled a bit to try to find when AMC HD was launched and it appears to me that it was launched in 2009, so, if back when you subscribed to Directv there was no AMC in HD and now there is, it probably means you are at the end of your 24 month commitment.

I just jumped ship from Dish to Directv and I knew I would lose BBC America in HD, a channel that I like quite a bit - like I said in another post, if you like Top Gear and you haven't seen it in HD, you have no idea what you are missing. Anyway, to my own tastes, the lack of BBC America HD on Directv was more than compensated for the better/simpler Directv DVR pricing structure, the availability of Gol TV (and in HD), ESPNUHD, the mosaic sports channels during Uefa champions League and the tennis big events, and that I could finally get all NY RSNs in HD.

Do I wish that Directv carries all the missing basic HD channels such as AMC, DIY, E!, etc? Oh yes, I do, I believe in the more HD content, the better. And, not caring too much for Premium channels - I'm getting them for another 2 months, part of my 3-month promo, then they are out, of course I'd rather get new basic HD channels. That said, I had a choice of 3 providers, I evaluate their pros and cons and I decided that I was better off with Directv and, so far, I'm enjoying it quite a bit and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Directv will add BBC America in HD during this year.

FYI - I finally updated the channel count chart. I lost the file to an HDD failure and had to rebuild it from scratch.
