All in favor of giving Oldfantom a vacation from the forum for deliberately misquoting a post, taking a single line out of context, please say "aye!" :)

(Please don't actually say aye in public. PM oldfantom instead.)

To be clear (again) some people will say such things. I won't. I'll say DIRECTV does care about basics, does care about DIRECTV customers, and even cares about Dish and cable customers who come to their senses and join DIRECTV.) :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

ah but you see there are NO MSOs that have all those channels in HD. So the "hellava list" is pretty much a non-story.

    Cheers,

Well my local cable co has much more on that list (national and premium) as does E*. So whats your point? Also Agree some leader DirecTV is(n't).... they suck IMHO - only thing good about D* IMHO is the DVR series they make (I'll say as good as tivo, no its not as pretty but as reliable) and a slightly better HD picture!

    Lancaster,...
I'd rather not have to wait a decade for these..

    AMC HD
    BBC America HD
    Fox Movie Channel HD
    Turner Classic Movies HD
    Hist Int'l HD
    HLN HD (CNN 2)
    DIY HD

I don't sub to the premiums (HBO, Showtime, etc.) and don't care about any premium HD channels. I think the local Comcrap and Verizon FiOS both offer most of these in HD and have done so for a while... no matter what D* says, they are no longer the "Leader in HD".. they lost that title a few years ago. They are the leader in "HD Sports" but that is about it. It appears that D* has the capacity for at least 5~10 more national (CONUS) HD channels from D12.

Fox College Sports channels does have -1 for HD slots. But D* has all the FSN's so the need for FCS is not as big as it is for cable and FCS is part time on D*.

Of that list, fios has one. AMC.

I just love the fios myths that float around.

Directv is by far the leader in hd sports. Right at the top in hd premiums and close in hd basic. Overall leader.

Your logic is flawed directv is not leading in HD overall. Only in Sports.

With all do respect. Directv is the leader in hd sports. Possibly close now to the top in hd premiums and not even close in hd basic. Overall leader - once upon a time! Wish it were still true!

All depends on how one counts.

What really matters is "of the channels I want, who has the most?" All the rest of this discussion is really superfluous in one manner or another.

Another shiny day here, even though the great grandtibbers are away camping for the weekend. I still gots me lots of HD and too many chores outdoors. :)

    More HD is coming.

    Cheers,
    Tom

If I wanted to invest some time analyzing this endless HD leader debate, I'd create a spreadsheet with the primary networks. Primary would probably be defined or limited to some ratings numbers like top-20 or 30 or something. Would also categorize by basic, premium/movies, and sports also. And then would fill in the availability on each provider, and create some type of grading system which would result in a numerical analysis of leader, with probably differences based on different grading criteria, since this is mostly subjective anyway.
