G4, E! and Style are comcast and G4 may become a UFC channel.
Yes it was real, but it's now in their flavor graveyard. It was good!
The bottom-line, even the lowest rated channel on my list smokes ShortsHD ratings. My point, if capacity is the new “lock ness monster”, why not add a big channel “most” people want? Why not try to please “most” customers in one go?
"AMC Garners 29 Emmy Award Nominations; Most for a Basic Cable Network Four Years in a Row." All in SD-lite on DIRECTV.
This is kind of my point. Channels like AMC need to be added long before ShortsHD & ESPN 3D.
Uh, once again, I must remind you that Shorts shows OSCAR nominated programming. Tons of it.
Emmys aren't worth the metal they are cast from.
All of that is based upon a B U S I N E S S - D E C I S I O N for push technology. A decision that they can remake anytime it makes sense for them to do so.
I believe Sixto covered that in his long post. If they decide they want to add 10 more HD channels, they can cut down or eliminate the push channels. They choose to not do so for now.
Yup, I fully have an eye on G4 and the UFC. This will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for me. I have very few “must haves”. UFC in HD is an absolute must have for me.
The ShortsHD argument, again? It gets old. For the billionth time, it's cheap and a premium...they're not like basics.
Also, nothing needs to be added. DirecTV isn't in desperation mode.
Lastly, we agree that popular channels should be added. See: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=2821326#post2821326
I hear ya, but.. come on man. We all know AMC is a juggernaut. Not having this channel in HD is just an embarrassment for DIRECTV. Especially when it’s available in HD just about everywhere else.
Yeah, I know we agree! I’m just not sure DIRECTV agrees. I will not bring ShortsHD up again. It’s old for me too.
That will rank right up there with CSN-Philly for me. The thing is I don't even know when UFCnet will get off the ground.
They are launching D14 in 2013. Why would the need to spend money on 1, 2, 3, and 5 before 2013 when they aren't losing any customers over the few HD channels people want?
From a business point of view, it doesn't make any sense. No one is going anywhere, and they are making money. Those more interested in BASIC HD then in Sports, Premiums and 3D.... would have left for Dish over a year ago. Since that isn't happening now, no reason why they couldn't wait till 2013, and save all the money that points 1, 2, 3 and 5 would cost. Especially since they may not even be able to do 1,2,3 and 5 BEFORE the end of 2012.
It's only an embarrassment if DirecTV would actually lose customers over it, and then still not is able to make a deal. Since that is not the case.... they'll add it whenever they please, which is when they can get a deal that makes financial sense. If they can't get that deal, it won't happen.....
It's not going to hurt DirecTV's bottom line much, if at all.
TCM shows Oscar winning movies. Come on, you know the countries water pressure goes down during the Documentary Oscar category, since everyone is taking a bathroom break
Yup, I never for a second question DIRECTV’s bank account. However, I’m not a stockholder, I’m merely an HD watcher.
Turner Classic Movies >>>>>>>> SH*TSHD
I complely agree with you, there are ways to do more with the current capacity that they have. For what ever reason they just do not want to now. We never know what is going on behind the scenes though. I like the SD MPEG-4 migration option. They could do it with specific channel groups ( I wonder if they are already working on it with the PI channels). They could start with perhaps SD premium channels and go from there.
Don't assume that everyone who wants more basic HD has migrated to DISH. I've wanted AMC, TCM and BBCA HD for at least a year, and I took the steps necessary to get access two of those three from an alternate source. Every penny I spend to get those channels (Or the Blu-Rays for the programming I want from the third channel.) comes directly out of my DirecTV budget. Money I would have spent buying additional programming from DirecTV. I haven't gone anywhere, but DTV get less from me each month as a result.
Off the top of your head can you name an Oscar winning short subject? I just looked them up and didn't recognize any of the titles. That being said I don't care about "Shorts" anymore, it doesn't do any good to discuss it. If you watch it, great, enjoy.
Juggernaut? Really? The only place I discuss AMC with is here.
