Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.
This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff... in exchange for your being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.
You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the 18,000,000 total subscribers.
*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.
Since anyone can see the channels I want in my signature thus useless having to repeat such, I'll resurrect an idea that I've posted a while ago.
How about Local News on Demand (working title of course) -
Using the DirecTV On Demand format, one can watch the local news broadcasts from various sources and markets, including one's own.
With this concept, you could follow local news from wherever you may be displaced, visited or will visit, or reside, on your own schedule without the use of a computer.
I suspect it will take a long time for full deployment, and participating markets and channels will vary, but I sense it would tap further into the displaced market like what D* already does wth the out of market sports packages.

Interesting concept. I suspect the local news organizations will solve this via their own websites. So if DIRECTV had a means to get videos that aren't just on Youtube, that would be handy. (With a way to save those searches conveniently.)
The other, mildly, tricky thing is to ensure that national stories that are carried by local newscasts are properly protected for the rights.
I am surprised there are not many more calls fro the IFC Channel. They show films very different from the premium channels--good independent and foreign films, and they are developing their own cutting edge programming. This is the best channel not in HD period. The premium channels just keep recycling all of the same Hollywood fare between them over and over and over again.
Just looked at the UPL for our 4 DVRs combined and the only non-HD recordings from the family were on: E!, Style, TV Land, Discovery Fit & Health, Women's Entertainment (We), and Oxygen.
TruTV was in HD briefly for the NCAA tournament and then not in HD ever since. I thought that was most definitely strange. I thought TruTV should have been in HD since the NCAA tournament.

I wish it was HD 24/7 too. Maybe the ALDS or NLDS will have another strange suspended rain delayed game that has to be moved to TruTV and D* will be forced to turn it on in HD again.
Good list. My main three that I've *****ed at to D* about are what is now H2, E! and ID. I got just over a year left in my contract with D*. I flat out told them, I've been waiting a very long time...even before I signed up for them to really expand their regular HD channel lineup..mainly the three I've mentioned and if they don't. I'm gone once my contract is up.
Channels I personally would like in HD:
1. Nat Geo Wild HD
2. IFC HD
3. H2 HD
4. ID HD
5. Cooking HD
And, if it counts:
6. WGSR HD (a LP local channel that is not on the AM21 listings. I realize that's a whole different situation... but it's HD. )
I would also like to see HLN, BBC-A, LMN, E!, etc (the "basics") added in HD. Not because I would EVER watch most of them but because I know a lot of people want those channels and it would make them happy and make D* look better since Time Warner Cable carries a lot of "basics" on HD (and E* for some of them, too).
I feel they should GET RID of the following HD channels since they are often NOT HD: BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Fuel. Maybe add a -1 for them for the 1 show (exaggeration) on each channel in real HD. What a waste of bandwidth.
Space limitations may be the reason, as it would be the concern for subscribers to suggest others that they believe should get added in HD before IFC. Especially so if one was to limit himself to just [five] suggestions. In that case, we can find BBC America HD at the top, while battling for the other four slots would be a combinaton of the following: Cooking Channel HD; DIY Network HD; E! Entertainment Television HD; H2 HD; The Hub HD; Nat Geo Wild HD; Turner Classic Movies HD; and any others I should mention as being in the conversation.
any chance does anyone know anyone from directv that could give us directv's plan on new HD channels?
