    Have to's

    • Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia, plus overflows.
    • Time Warner Cable Sportsnet/Deportes - Los Angeles
    • Comcast Sportsnet Houston
    • FS New Orleans subfeed.

*NBA season starts 10/30, I'd anticipate launches closer to then.

    Want to's

    • H2
    • Investigation Discovery
    • Fox Movie Channel (when available in HD)
    • Telemundo DNS

    Like to's

    • ESPN Deportes
    • Fox Deportes
    • GalavisiĆ³n
    • beIN Sport en EspaƱol
    • Encore Action and Drama
    • MoviePlex
    • Pac 12 Network, with football and basketball subfeeds
    • MavTV
    • TVLand (don't know what is on HD in that channel)
    • CW HD-DNS for Alan

Is D* waiting for the full slate of Encores to launch in HD?

Nope. NBC had planned to upgrade Chiller and Sleuth (now Cloo) to HD back several years ago, but cancelled plans when the economy took a nose-dive.

Yeah, this would be a great channel to add, in HD! Nothing like some Diamond Dave and the rest of Van Halen, with their great video's. I can dig it!!!

Yes, TVLand sans the extra commercial over-runs in HD!

Never going to happen, and all the good TechTV people are better off now anyway, at least most of them.

The cycle races have some great scenery, and would be lot easier to see the cyclists in HD. Sure would be watched, as much as the Tour de France, on NBC Sports Network.

Yeah, and after the Tour of Utah being on Fox Sports, I'd like a full time RSN.

    H2, H2 and H2! And CSN Philly!

If DirecTV in fact embraces 4k in 2016 and NHK meets its reported goal to begin 8k trial broadcasts during 2020, the TV replacement cycle for enthusiasts is going to contract substantially.

    Alan,

Great job on the list. I have two corrections and one comment for you on the following section:

SPANISH LANGUAGE CHANNELS THAT DIRECTV CURRENTLY OFFERS IN SD, BUT NOT HD (11):

    A Toda Musica
    Azteca America
    Azteca Mexico
    BeIN Sport Dos
    ESPN Deportes
    Fox Deportes
    GolTV
    Telemundo
    TeleNoticias 24
    Television Espanola
    Univision Deportes Network

---Directv does not offer Univision Deportes Network. I believe its only offered by Dish, Fios and ATT.

---Galavision should be on this list. Its only offered in SD.

---Telemundo (National East and West) are not offered in HD by Directv but local Telemundo affiliates are offered in HD in some markets.

    thanks

Which would mean they'd have to swap out all the SD boxes for HD, like they do for MPEG4 markets now, right?

I can think of one or two users here that won't like that :)

I assume there are a lot of contract negotiations to do by then as we'll. According to Alan's list, it looks like right now there are over 50 channels to "upgrade" to HD. With I'm sure more to come by 2016. Of course they could simply drop some of those channels to accomplish the same thing. That's probably not as likely.

So does this mean they may start locking up the rights to show the HD version of all channels as they renegotiate contracts going forward? I would think they would need to in order to be in a position in 2016 to get where they want to be.

I'm very pleased with the potential possibilities.
