DIRECTV HD Channel Anticipation (Official Q4-12 Thread)

Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the nearly 20,000,000 total subscribers.

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

If you have any questions as to what belongs in this thread or an individual channel thread please read the latest DIRECTV Programming Forum Rules (Link).

How about some H2 HD action? Anyone? Anyone?
I figure H2 HD has to be coming. Just like it was the case with AMC HD, Turner Classic Movies HD, and BBC America HD this is one programmer whose high def seems to be plenty in demand. It's strange that it hasn't yet been added. Same with Cooking Channel HD and Style Network HD (to name two sister channels whose originals' high def are indeed available in the lineup regularly on DirecTV).

H2 HD seems obvious. I just hope not to be wrong.

My guess, with basic cable in HD, up to a maximum five:
204 Headline News HD
232 Cooking Channel HD
253 LMN HD
271 H2 HD
304 TV Land HD
.
To add to your guess, I'd lean towards channels from providers that Directv signed new contracts with in 2012, so channels from Viacom and Starz may be high on the possibilities list.

I would also welcome others that are basic cable, in high def, which include those with select HD programming available through DirecTV's On Demand. (For example: Reelz Channel.)

DirecTV's 2012 basic-cable high-def additions were encouraging: BBC America HD, DIY Network HD, E! Entertainment Television HD, Nat Geo Wild HD, truTV HD, and Turner Classic Movies HD. Along with them, and the east-coast national feed of Ion Television HD, there were the brand-new programmers beIn Sports HD, Disney Junior HD, and regionals Time Warner Cable Deportes HD and Time Warner Cable SportsNet HD.
I do not think HLN will be one of the first five for 2013. I think Universal Sports and WE (in addition to the other four on your list) will come before HLN.

My new baby is really expensive. Toys, diapers, doctor visits, the cost of the c-section, my wife's medical bills, a single income, the upcoming fiscal cliff, increased health insurance premiums for "family" coverage, etc. I'm going to downgrade the premium packages to whatever the first package that includes DIY network. No more HBO, Max, Sho, Starz, encore, etc. Whatever bills I can cut back, I will. Hopefully new HD's will be of the "basic" variety. Not that I want to downgrade... It's out of necessity.

I've been there man. It gets easier when they break that first year mark. Cost goes way down - at least it did for me.

Thanks. I also can't wait for my first tax return with my new little deduction.

But for DirecTV, I will have to lower my package at least for a little while.

I love HD and hope more HD basics are on the way. Sounds like that's the case. Even in due time some more HD for my daughter would be great... like the hub hd, sprout hd. She's only 6 weeks so not really watching TV yet... but it would be nice if she had sharp pictures to look at to help her eyes focus... rather than blurry SD. Though Disney JR HD looks great and she looks at that off and on.

sat can you give us a hint what the new hd channels will be?
I wish I could. Safe to say they are on the various lists that are out there on this board, but whether they are the channels an individual wants varies person to person. Translation: everyone wants a different channel it seems so some come away happier than others. The good news is that more HD is coming and will continue to come after the next round.

In my opinion, there is something for everyone and the quantity will be nice. Most are deemed "basic" networks, as well.

Thanks for the update SR. I agree with you that everyones tastes are different. With quantity, hopefully most people will receive something that they enjoy. Then more HD after that. Sounds great. Hoping to see HLN, TV LAND, H2, LMN, ID, FMC, and Military Channel.

Most are basic so will the missing premiums like outermax HD, encore action HD, encore Drama HD, Retroplex HD and Indieplex HD?

This may have been addressed earlier, so sorry if it has. Has there been any talk about adding the WatchESPN feature that is available to Comcast and a few other cablecos? ESPN is putting more and more of their internet broadcasts here instead of the regular ESPN3 avenue. It would be nice to be able to have access to those events. Thanks in advance to SatRacer or anyone else for their input.
