Please use this thread to discuss your feelings about upcoming national HD channels.

This thread will not be as tightly moderated as the rest of the site, but here's the tradeoff...in exchange for being able to rant a bit more, you can be assured that absolutely no one at DIRECTV will be using this thread for reference.

You can ask for all the new HD you want, but DIRECTV's marketing department knows that the 100-150 contributors to this thread are only a small part of the over 20 million U.S subscribers (37+ million world wide).

*Please remember that all forum rules are still in effect.
*Please do not "bump" this thread.
*Other threads that do nothing but anticipate HD channels for which there is no information will be closed.
*This is not a DIRECTV vs. Dish thread, there are other threads for that.

If you have any questions as to what belongs in this thread or an individual channel thread please read the latest DIRECTV Programming Forum Rules (Link).

Still wondering why OuterMax HD hasn't been added to DIRECTV's Cinemax lineup after all these years?

Still wondering why we need a quarterly thread when a yearly thread would suffice?

There's not much left but I'm still waiting for
    MAVTV
    POP
    NASA
    GAC
    TVG
    Sportsman Channel
    And whatever is left over

KyL, now that we have Outdoor Channel will we see Sportsman Channel soon, since they're both owned by the same company?

This is a really good question. Long overdue. Other Fox RSNs have gone from subchannels to full time HD channels. Even a new HD RSN launched recently! Can it really be a contract after all these years?

    I am not anticipating.

I am appreciating that we recently had upgrades of linear programmers' HD plus ones earlier in the year.

My brother switched from AT&T's DirecTV to Comcast, this past March, and at that point I noted a particular quartet of children's programmers and compared the two companies in HD. (This is Comcast in Detroit, Michigan.) The programmers: Discovery Family, Disney Junior, Nick Jr., and Universal Kids (then-Sprout). Comcast had Discovery Family and Universal Kids in HD. AT&T's DirecTV had Disney Junior and Nick Jr. in HD. More than six months later, here on October 1, 2017, AT&T's DirecTV now has all four while Comcast still has two.

I do not want to anticipate because I do not know what people behind the scenes at AT&T's DirecTV may have in mind. Many months ago, there were mentions of 2019 being a goal for AT&T's DirecTV to carry all applicable linear programmers' HD. Perhaps this can be achieved. If this happens, it may be that AT&T's DirecTV reaches while many other cable-television providers do not.

2019 is when Directv drops MPEG2 SD. That does not guarantee anything about HD upgrades - in fact I feel pretty safe in guaranteeing there will be some MPEG4 SD channels where HD is available that Directv doesn't carry either due to contracts, due to not wanting pay more for it, or simply because they don't think it is worth the bother.

The presence of MPEG2 SD has nothing to do with why certain channels are not carried in HD today, so I don't see why it would matter in 2019 when MPEG2 SD is gone.

Here's my predictions for this quarter:

1 - The remaining Starz Encore channels will finally be added in HD.
    2 - Hallmark Drama

    That's all I see coming.

Isn't tomorrow (Monday, 10-2) the day that the remaining Comcast SportsNet channels become NBC Sports regionals?

AFAIK Directv has announced nothing except telling the dealers they'd shut off MPEG2 SD in 2019. Don't even know if that's early in the year or Dec. 31. Presumably they'll be contacting people with SD gear eventually to schedule replacement, but if anyone knows when that is supposed to happen they aren't saying yet.

Has any provider added Hallmark Drama? I find nothing about it. Very strange. I assume it's HD since this is 2017.

The only providers I've found so far are C Spire in Mississippi, Full Channel in Rhode Island, and Service Electric in PA.

    The channel is in HD.

Wasn't sure if I should put this in this thread but when they resolved our KMOV channel 4 contract dispute with DTV the channel 4-1 Alerts keeps popping up and going away. Will a box reset fix it? Thanks.
