I don't pay for locals.. although they did give them to me for 6 months for free.. ( coincidentally during the football and snow season..).. but I pay something like $4 a month less. .

Seems like this new HD channel anticipating doesn't get us anywhere... It's been years since we've been wanting AHC HD, NASA TV HD, etc. and nothing. When did D* last introduce a new CONUS, non-premium, non-shopping channel HD to us? It appears that the ATT/D* merger did nothing as far as helping us get any new HD channels (ones that Uverse had that D* didn't).

They just added five or six CONUS HD channels a month ago, you haven't been paying attention.

Good to know.. Thanks! I thought D* would tell customers via the Messages menu when new HD channels were lit up. Still waiting for NASA HD.

You post this bogus "nothing new besides premiums and shopping channels" claim in EVERY single anticipation thread when it's NOT true at all. For one thing the last time we got a premium channel was back in January 2013 when Encore Action HD was added. This is everything that was added since then:

01/13: TV Land, LMN, ID, HLN, Cooking Channel, IFC and H2 (now Viceland)
    03/13: Univision Deportes
04/13: Bloomberg, OWN and FS San Diego
    05/13: Sportsmix
08/13: QVC, Galavision, BeIN Espanol and ESPN Deportes
    12/13: WeatherNation
    08/14: SEC Network
    09/14: Reelz and Ovation
    11/14: Root Sports Southwest
    12/14: MTV2
01/15: ESPN Goal Line/Bases Loaded, Fusion, Longhorn and mun2 (now Universo)
03/15: WeTV, BBC World News and Sundance
    05/15: Fox Deportes
    06/15: Nick Jr
    (AT&T's Purchase of DirecTV completed)
    08/15: ESPN College Extra
    09/15: Fuse
11/15: Aspire (and the now defunct Al Jazeera America)
12/15: Revolt, Comedy.TV and Justice Central
    06/16: FM and GSN
09/16: One World Sports (now Eleven Sports)
    11/16: Oxygen
12/16: FS Wisconsin and FS Oklahoma
    03/17: Pursuit
04/17: One America News and AWE
06/17: El Rey and Sprout (now Universal Kids)
    07/17: Olympic Channel
09/17: AT&T Sportsnet Rocky Mountain West, FXM, American Heroes Channel, Discovery Family, RFD, Outdoor Channel

If you haven't noticed any of these, you're probably using a favorites list. Many of them have been mentioned in guide banners (which you don't see if the channel the banner is attached to is hidden). Some have also been mentioned in messages, others have been mentioned in the inside directv newsletter that comes with every bill or linked in the e-mail if you use paperless billing, as well as cross-channel advertising. If you insist on using a favorites list you should really do yourself a favor and check it more often than once every 5 years to not only see if there's new channels, but check if any of the channels you hid now air programming you might want to see. Unless of course you want DirecTV to start force adding every new channel to everyone's favorites lists...

Other than Kyl416's totally uncalled for an nasty response.
Unless you have tons of time on your hands to do all those things suggested - it is very difficult without these forums to know what is new - who reads the bills or attachments and who doesn't use favorites. It think a much better job could be done telling people about changes and what even some of those channel names mean.

They definitely should put them in the messages that come to our TV.

No, he comes into every single quarterly thread making this bogus "no new national HD channels for years besides premiums and shopping" claim, gets called out on it each time by multiple people since in several of those cases we have gotten new channels a few weeks prior, and STILL does it the following quarter...

If you're going to have a favorites list, you should check it at least once in 5 years, not just for new channels, but to see if any channels you hid in the past have changed formats into something you like now, or even if channels that you might have wanted to watch are now part of your package since in the past few years many channels that were once only part of Xtra or higher have moved to lower packages. It shouldn't take any longer than 5 minues to switch to "All channels" and quickly scroll the guide to see if anything catches your interest on channels that you don't have in your list. As for an explanation of any of the channels you never heard of, they already provide that, just go to the channel in the guide and click the left arrow, most channels have a description.

(Plus if he hasn't noticed any addition that was made in the almost 5 years since a premium was last added, hopefully a list of all of them would help...)

Don't think it is uncalled for if the same guy is making the same bogus claim about no new channels every quarter. If he can't be bothered to check and figures "hey if I claim there are no new channels, sometime will correct me and let me know which ones" then THAT is what is uncalled for, not Kyl416's response.

He's a great resource here - he's the most knowledgeable one here about the behind the scenes details for network uplinks, and tracks the HD channels that have been added or could be added better than anyone else.

I have a feeling you didn’t know the history there as I think Kyl416 response was too kind considering the other guy is basically a troll and there’s proof of that.

Personally I can’t stand people who purposefully push false info as that guy did to try and make someone look bad. In fact there is a name for that isn’t there? Slander maybe? And to do that where some people who don’t keep up may not know he’s lying is disingenuous at the very least on his part.

This is partly observation and partly educated guess: I believe any receiver messages promoting specific channels -- other than Audience Network or any other AT&T-owned services -- are paid advertising; therefore, they won't run a message saying "So-and-So Is Now in HD" unless So-and-So is willing to pay for it.

If it wasn't for these threads and Kyl416 I wouldn't have known about most of those new additions, since they don't put them in the bar.

Well when are we getting new premiums in HD? It's been almost 5 years, what's the hold up? We all know there's plenty of room on the satellites. We only have 2 of the Encores in HD for Christ's sake! For what they cost we should have had all of them a long time ago.

I currently subscribe to all premium-movie programmers. So, I relate. I agree that it would be good to get upgrades—most especially from the multiscreen Encores (now Starz Encore). If AT&T’s DirecTV has in mind having all the primaries of HBO, Cinemax, Starz, and Showtime carried in both east- and west-coast feeds, as they do now, then we should get upgraded HD for those west-coast feeds of Encore (Starz Encore) and The Movie Channel.

I still want to know what's the hold up with getting OuterMax HD added after all these years?
