I thought it was pretty rare for Directv to make any changes after Thanksgiving? I wouldn't look for any more new HD until the new year.

Not true at all, just like the myth that changes only happen on Wednesdays that a certain predictor likes to latch on, there is no pattern of a post-Thanskgiving freeze:
(In a few of those cases it was even the day after Christmas)

This Wednesday the local Ion HD feeds for NYC, Dallas and Atlanta will go live. (Possibly more after that since the rest of the actual local Ion feeds that are currently SD only on DirecTV opted for must carry in the current election cycle)

Other non-HD related things have happened post-Thanksgiving too involving P/I channels and other SD channels. (i.e. This Thursday Starz Encore Espanol SD is going live on channel 426 on the 119 slot)

That's nice but what about the rest of the Encore HD channels?

I have heard the same thing. I think we should remove the word "soon?"

Most of the Encores only went HD a few months ago. And DirecTV has added the logos for said channels to their various apps so I would imagine it's a matter of time before we get them.

Directv doesn't just add local channels based on having "slots" available, they have specific rules that govern what channels they are obligated to carry that they follow and they don't arbitrarily add channels beyond that. Additionally, spot beams are often shared with other markets so even if they figure they have room in a spotbeam transponder for another channel they might end up using it for another market like say Milwaukee.

It all depends on the terms that MGM asks for it. MGM might be a little better to negotiate with since they're on their own now, compared to when Epix had to offer terms that the other partners Lionsgate and Paramount had to like too. (Kind of like the mess that was CSN Houston where it was basically the Astros that caused the entire thing to collapse)

No it failed because, excluding Comcast, it wasn't on any large providers (DirecTV, Dish Network, Time Warner, Charter, Uverse; Dish Network and Charter still don't carry its successor AT&T SportsNet Southwest).

No, the reason was the way the partnership was written gave everyone the right of refusal, so every potential deal ended up with a stalemate because Jim Crane always wanted more than what Comcast and the Rockets were willing to accept. They all but had deals done with DirecTV and some other providers, but then Jim Crane came in at the last minute and demanded more money.

I don't trust press releases any more. It was reported DirecTV would add the MoviePlex channels 5.5 years ago and it still doesn't have them.

Starz, DirecTV extend distribution deal: Satcaster to offer shows on DirecTV Everywhere

What app are you using? My Android phone app doesn't have any HD logos on the Encore channels except Encore (East) and Encore Action.

You have to decompile the Android app using a tool like apktool to see it, but about 4 months ago they added logos for the Starz Encore HD channels:
    logos1.jpg

Basically each entry for a channel has a logo_id which points to the image files in one of the assets folders. These are brand new numbers, compared to the SD feeds which have different logo_id's. i.e. the SD feed for StarzEncore Black is 0469, Starz Encore Classic is 0470, Starz Encore Family is 0304, Starz Encore Suspense is 0305, Starz Encore Westerns is 0063.

The latest update also added logos for the newly rebranded NBC Sports RSNs, Universal Kids, and BET Her, but they didn't update the feed to point to their logo_ids yet.

Well when are they actually going to launch on DirecTV? This is the third time I've asked you. If you don't know, just say so.

If I hade a date I would have said it as soon as I found out, like I have for other channels in the past.

The only specific dates I have right now is for some Ion local HD feeds launching tommorow, Starz Encore Espanol SD launching on Thursday, nothing yet for the Starz Encore HD feeds.

You have to pay careful attention to the language. That release states that they would continue to carry what's already on, it granted rights for DirecTV Everywhere and in a separate section states the agreement 'enabl[ed]' DirecTV to add the other channels. It does not say they were required to or that they were going to add them. Essentially, the two companies agreed on a price should DirecTV be further compelled to add it within the length of the contract. In simplest form, it was an option.

There was similar text in the Epix/Viacom release several years back. DirecTV would continue to carry the existing Viacom channels and the two had agreed on pricing for EPIX if DirecTV opted to add it. They did not.
