For the record, I have a 50-inch SDTV and a 20-inch SDTV hooked up to HR24-100s via component, and SD looks perfectly fine on both.

No, it's not as good as the SD looked back during the 1990s, but it looks REMARKABLE compared to how bad SD looked prior to D7s being put into service and giving the channels at 101 more room to breathe. :)

I didn't see it as an assault on DirecTV. Not part of the discussion for me. I am talking SD and SD TVs.

But I don't see why and SD set is a better solution at that size. The SD should be acceptable (what I mean by watchable) and you still get HD at the same time.

I don't see the "better" SD (that is probably not that discernable at that size) as enough of a benefit to outweigh having HD at that location at the same time. Especially when 32 inch HD TVs are pretty cheap themselves.

I suppose there could be an announcement, but actually see the results of a major package reshuffling on our TVs? Highly unlikely. You don't blindside people that way. It may even be against the law (it would be illegal for, say, a Comcast to do it that way; dunno about the sat guys). If there's anything on the 17th, it'll be an anouncement of what's coming in January. . .

    Yep!

I guess they could THEORETICALLY "grandfather" everyone, and allow people to change their packages should they wish to, BUT it does seem doubtful now...

November and December, the time of the year when many of the "Powers that Be" take vacation because of all the time accrued up from the year. It's getting hopeless for 2010 now. Surprised they just don't add AMC in HD for The Walking Dead in HD, then call it a year. Then in early 2011 blow everyone out of the water with a nice big add.

I would guess that Sixto isn't seeing anything on the back-end, so has not a whole lot to offer at the moment.

In a pure package reshuffle, I don't know that he would see anything anyway (maybe, if they changed channel numbers too). But presumably the point of such a reshuffle would be in part to add new channels, and that he would have seen if any were coming on the 17th.

If the decisions were being made now, perhaps. A major package reshuffle would likely have been formulated and approved long before now. You don't need execs to implement. . . that's what engineers and service reps are for.

I still can not believe that we don't have this D* owned channel in HD yet. I can't remember which one, but either TWC or Cablevision in NY has it in HD already.

The Walking Dead looks like **** on AMC SD. Right up there with Chiller and BBC America.

Edit: What's really pathetic is that the PQ of episode 1 that AMC is streaming from their website looks much better than D*'s AMC feed. Unfortunately they don't have eps 2 or 3 up.
