I have it now. The movies so far haven't been very new at all, the audio sync is off by quite a bit and they have a really annoying bug. IMO, meh.... :)

Yes... discussing channels that one provider has available, that we are ANTICIPATING on our provider should not be discussed on an ANTICIPATION thread...

... or football, or baseball, or basketball, or hockey, tennis, racing, hunting, fishing, PPV, E!, or TruTV, etc...

I was more interested in EPIX until I found out they were 720p. I'd still like them, but that diminished my interest somewhat. Looking at their schedule, there's a few movies I'd like to see, but most of them are out on Blu-ray, so I'll probably wait until I can find them on sale cheap enough... then I'll have 1080p and "lossless" audio.

Indieplex and Retroplex are two channels I'd like to have as well, but I'm more interested in the possibilities of Sony Movie Channel than them, and...

... as you stated, I too will be somewhat disappointed by ANY addition that is not AMC (or BBC America, or Turner Classic Movies).

Try not to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult. There are appropriate threads for comparing providers. This one is for the anticipation of potential HD channels on DirecTV. We all know that, now let's get back on topic.

Das Boot in HD will be going on the DVR, I assure you. It might even stick around for repeated viewings for quite some time. That's one of the things I love about these big HDs --there's enough room to hang on to some old favorites for long stretches.

That's a good point. There is a lot of old and not so old movies we have never seen available in HD . Actually, there are some not even available on DVD : The Fixer, with Alan Bates and The Sergeant with Rod Steiger (this one was released on DVD but in very limited edition), to mention just few of them. I am all in favor of remastering of 60s and 70s movies and I hope Sony Movies can bring us some of them.

!rolling !rolling !rolling !rolling !rolling !rolling

That was kind of my point.

I'm THRILLED that all the channel counts have moved to another thread. I found the discussion of them to be EXTREMELY tedious, as I couldn't care WHICH provider had the most channels, but rather which provider offered me the most channels I CARE about.

HOWEVER, in this thread, it's only natural that some comparisons between providers are made. Cablecos may happen from time to time, but very infrequently because... well, Coca Cola Kid said it best:

As long as we don't go off-topic like we did before, I think the OP's post, a post in which he placed the differences between the two companies, and then bolded the channels on the other provider that HE was anticipating seemed perfectly harmless to me. A moderator might disagree with me, but I just didn't see the big deal...

Dish Network has 17 channels I want that DirecTV doesn't. DirecTV has 3 channels. Between FX being pulled, and Sony Movie Channel (and possibly more) being added this month, the differences between the two are dwindling! YAY!! :D

This coming from the poster who referenced DISH Network 3-4 dozen times in posts to the previous DIRECTV anticipation thread.

Often it helps to consider what other providers are adding to get a sense of what programmers are making deals. If, for example, IFC isn't making deals with many other carriers, it doesn't bode well for (but certainly doesn't preclude) DIRECTV adding it.

This thread is literally about trying to anticipate what's coming, not to make excuses for or downplay/dismiss/disparage what hasn't.

All three channels have been in hd for a while now. If you use a custom channel list, you need to go in and add them to yoru list so you can see the hd versions of the channels.

This is not correct.... DirecTV does not currently offer Telemundo-HD...

It does offer all the other HD channels listed (Univision, TeleFutura, Gol TV, FSC, and Mega TV)...
