Reasonable question, with or without the wink. What else could the reason be except money/contracts? The higher ups must know that we, the small number that that is, want more hd and we want it now! :D

If I'm not mistaken, D10 came after Murdoch, though you point is ultimately valid. All this festive and anticipation talk came about because of DirecTV's handling of D10. They are not the same company anymore. With D11, they told investors that national HD as a means of attracting new customers had peaked. With D12, they are telling investors they are more than happy to drop channels. The DirecTV this thread addressed doesn't exist anymore. The more people realize this, the more intelligent complaints will be posted, and the more likely it will be that people who are thinking about switching from cable will choose a teleco or Dish Network instead. As long as people who are unhappy with DirecTV's direction put their absolute trust that DirecTV will in the end do "the right thing," there's little hope that DirecTV will address what those customers' want in a television service provider.

Going by their latest investor's meeting, I would say #1 was already acknowledged in somewhat more polite terms. You can say it's not "en masse" but anyone who enjoys any channel that can be called "niche" now knows DirecTV essentially believes that channel is worthless.

In term of this forum representing a minority of their client base, I agree. I see very few complaints about the lack of Lifetime Movie Network HD, even though D* seems alone in not adding the channel when they added Lifetime HD (and before that I saw very few complaints about the lack of Lifetime HD compared to say G4 HD.) However, if you look at DirecTV's twitter you will see an entirely different group of customers wondering why they aren't carrying this or that channel in HD. Again, this is a "minority" (though a different minority), but places like forums, Twitter, and Facebook are the only place we can observe customers' complaints so that is the only object evidence we use until someone taps DirecTV's phones.

Adding more HD cuts into their bank. Simple as that. No need to add HD we really want. Hence the contract locking their customer's hands.

The only HD we'll see will have an extra price tag on it. Been that way the past several additions. That was by design. I bet we get more PPVHD before we see AMCHD or BBCAHD. Mark my words.

Yup, maybe it's not contactual. Maybe it's lack of desire. Only SR knows. :sure:

    ...- .....
Not necessarily, they had unused capacity on D12. Why not fill it with PPV until the next thing comes along.

Don't have room on back end?

If PPV is big why not use to open space for RSN OVER FLOWS and NFL ST and not take down PPV to show them while waiting for more HD?

which is why in the back of my head i question if D12 is 100% healthy. I don't understand how they can launch such an expensive piece of equipment with a limited lifespan and not use it to its fullest potential ASAP.

Or it could be the don't have enough ground support to beam up stuff to the sat but I would hope they would have planned that ahead and been ready with enough uplink capacity ahead of time.

Or there is a new venture that DTV isn't letting any secrets out about that they plan on using the space on D12 to fulfill the new service.

Hoo boy. Premature for that. If they wait to knock off several channels (as they've said they might do) before adding new ones, then I might possibly maybe consider indulging in grassy knollism on this point.

The fan said the sky is falling. D* is going bankrupt and the only company that will have hd channel will be the cable company that stops service two blocks from your house.

    That is all.

Here are a couple of possibilities:

    1. The next bird isn't scheduled until 2013, so D12 is it as far as new capacity for the next 2+ years. If they fill it up now, they won't have any room to add new channels or alternative services for a long, long, time.

    2. Not using the channel capacity may seem like a wasted investment, but turning on channels requires additional investment in equipment and programming costs. Even turning on a new PPV has costs - if it doesn't generate enough sales, it would end up losing them money.

Customers walking due to their favorite channel(s) not in HD cost them money too. ;)
