    I really want
    AMC HD
    Sony Movies HD
THE rest of the HBO/Cinemax HD's
    E! HD
    Epix HD
    G4 HD
    DIY HD
    The HUB HD
    Turner Classic Movies HD
    and IFC HD

If they turned all these on today I'd probably never need to visit this thread again

as frustrated as we are with Directv's lack of new basic HD channels additions...

I Must say it would really suck to be a Dish subscriber today...

A Fox Networks web site is reporting that Dish Network has been forced to remove the Fox-owned FX, National Geographic Channel and 19 Fox regional sports networks from the air.

They also lost the MSG channels today due to pricing issues.

Also I anticipate lots of crying and whining about people crying and whining. The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter :)

Mathematically, if DirecTV wanted to be within 1% of the true population proportion of viewers who want AMCHD (for example) they would need a sample of 16,577 subscribers.

This is assuming a 99% confidence-level and that they are not basing their sample size on any previous study.

    (Min. sample size to be 99% confident) = (0.5)(0.5)(2.575/.01)^2 = 16,577

If they are ok with being within 3% of the true proportion, then they would only need 1,842 subscribers.

A sample size of 150 only gets them within 10.5% or so of the true proportion.

The other thing to consider is that using those that post in these threads is not a random sample; which makes the sample not useful for statistical analysis. :)

    Sherman...
Yes, absolutely, for some time now. I've been recently watching "Sym-Bionic Titan," which is definitely in HD. (I also watch some Adult Swim programming for which it's hard to tell whether or not it's actually in HD, or stretched. )

I anticipate that, whatever HD channels DirecTV adds and however quickly (or slowly) they do it, the people here will never be fully satisfied. But I thank DirecTV for trying. I know the "tango" can be a long, sometimes intractable process.

Yes. People who visit and participate in a message board dedicated to the topic...are not representative of the everyday customer.

True. We all have a bluray player (probably) but only 17% of the households in USA has at least one BD player.

Dish Network still has FSN Northwest, FSN Rocky Mountain, and FSN Pittsburgh. None of those are owned by Fox.

Also, Dish Network dropped MSG this morning, so that's another one that DirecTV has exclusively.

I anticipate the same 4 posters arguing with E* subs and repeatedly rehashing the same arguments.

    Sounds like fun.

Personally I'm fairly happy with what I've got in HD already but I could probably find some things to watch on AMC, BBCA, and E if they were available to us in HD.

For some it does really suck, but for many others it is just a minor irritant. D* subscribers need to watch this one closely because if Fox gets the money they want, D* will be next...

For me personally, this isn't a big deal. All the stuff on FX I would watch, I can get from Hulu and I don't care if any RSNs are on at all.

    1. AMC
    2. BBCA
    3. Cooking
    4. TCM

    = happy.

Continual lack of 1 and 2 in particular is likely not sustainable with this sub.
