Can you tell me the percentage of homes that have HD TV's? What is the penetration of HD equipment for each of the carriers you mention? When you talk about Comcast, which Comcast? The Comcast locations are going to have different demographics. How much would it cost if all the providers added all the SD channels in HD? My parents just got HD. I can guarantee they would not have paid a nickel more for D* to pay for HD for the rest of us prior to them getting HD. If D* added BBCA and AMC today, but the carriage agreements where such that D* had to raise their prices $5 a month, the forums would light up. So would the switch boards.

In theory, I agree with you. In practice, I don't know. I really don't know answers to my questions above. Personally, and don't tell D*, $5 dollars a month is not a big deal. But if I have a choice, I would not pay a plug nickel more for those two channels. That is my opinion of their worth.

Damn, I was all excited about setting up a "The Walking Dead" series link when I got home tonight. I forgot that AMC wasn't in HD yet. Sucks that I'll be missing this new series. Guess I'll wait for the DVD... It's only a 6 episode first season. Hopefully by season two, D* will have corrected this obvious shortcoming.

From the 2010 Q2 earnings call

70% have advanced services like HD-DVR... Shouldn't they add more network HD channels to satisfy that large customer base, and also help continue to trend that 70% up into the 80's and 90% range?

    I didn't see a Q3 earnings call yet.

Advanced services also includes the SD DVR, so probably that 70% for HD is probably closer to 50%.

Soooo sad that we won't be getting AMC in HD before Walking Dead. :(

Off to Amazon to download them in HD so I can watch them properly. Ridiculous that I have to do that.

The sheer number of folks asking for (and not ever getting) AMC and BBC-America boggles my mind. Both networks have been in HD for over a year. I seems to be if they were going to end up on D* they would be here by now. I'm just about given up hope we will be seeing them anytime in the next year.

I buy them off of XBOX live. Sad but true, but hey I don't get any commercials so that's good for something. Bet the advertisers like to hear that.

Sheer numbers asking for amc & BBCA? I can kind of agree amc is popular, but BBCA is not that popular. They're not even a top 30 rated cable channel.

I'm pretty sure DrZ meant DBSTalker's asking for BBC. :) E.g., a search for BBC* in this thread results in 6 pages of posts!

Viewing Joy Behar in HD? I think they would be better off staying with SD in that case.

Blondes, brunettes, redheads, they all bring me joy!:) I agree about Robin Meade. Would watch headline news if if they only showed her sitting at the desk smiling.

Hang tight, more PPVHD channels coming soon! There’s been talk of adding LBCHD (Lawn Bowling Channel) too. Only $12.99 a month.

Seriously, tons of room still available on D12. In fact, so much room, it has the ability to shut this thread down for good. One can hope.

Yes, but management has embraced a glacial approach to adding basic national HD networks since Murdoch ceded ownership.

Hoosier repeatedly trumpets DirecTV’s business acumen, an assertion difficult to dispute given a growing – and relatively affluent – subscriber base. Its success in considerable measure emanates from sports programming, the principal reason I have been a customer for 15 years. Moreover, it reasonably can be inferred DirecTV principals judge revenue flows generated by HD versions of BBCA, AMC, etc. would prove limited at best. This assessment, in turn, may account for DirecTV possibly embracing an obdurate stance in negotiations for these channels.

I also note posts to the various D12 threads reflect closely the tenor of their D11 antecedents: initial elation at time of launch, subsequent assurances by some posters that desired programming was “over the near horizon,” further delays and growing expressions of frustration countered by declarations the disenchanted should seek other providers (or embrace like measures).

Frankly, I’ve grown weary of the “tango,” enjoy those HD offerings available from DirecTV and am happy I can view AMC HD and other frequently-requested channels via Comcast.

Rather than fruitlessly anticipating new basic HD, I would be satisfied if DirecTV would resolve its audio dropout problem.

Also, don't forget that they Repaired D10 so more HD Content can now be Stored there also.
