is there any loss of data if I try it on another receiver? Blue light comes on fine.
usually not, but if the file system/SSD damaged, other IRD cold try to reformat it - then it will ask your permission to do that
No. You can't view that content on any other HR than the one it was recorded on, but the content will still be there, and when you return it to the original HR, you can view it. If it's the eSATA box and you replace it, you can put the SDD in the new eSATA box; it will play the content on the HR it was recorded on. If it's the SSD, you lose everything.
I seem to recall
that somewhere (way up the thread of the SSD topic ) someone posted to not use that oyen enclosure with the SSD combo in it that Amazon sells as a unit with the D* HRs.
Instead use the standalone enclosure that Rich linked to and put a better SSD in it. These are good enclosures.
Second person, same thing happened to me a month or so ago with an HR-24. It's in the other SSD thread of Rich's. Different dock though.
Your experience wouldn't apply here, because the software update I was wondering about happened 4 days ago on my hr.
It appears it was the 3 month old oyen esata enclosure(not sure if it's still under warranty). Both ssd's worked on the other enclosure I have. It did take 2 tries to get it to take on my upstairs hr, but it worked. Don't have the patience to see if it will work another time.
Who makes a more reliable esata enclosure I could try? Also is it wrong to set the enclosure on top of my receiver, as far as heat damage? The front of the stereo cabinet is open.
I use this one and I have set aside the receiver not on top
Amazon.com: StarTech.com eSATA / USB 3.0 SATA III Docking Station with UASP - USB 3.0 Hot-Swap Dock supports 2.5"/3.5" SATA HDD/SSD (SDOCKU33EBV): Computers & Accessories
what's the maximum ssd I can use with the hr24-500? Tight now I have a 1tb samsung.
Interesting, I've wondered about that enclosure.
Here's a link to the easiest-to-use external device I've ever used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WC1QQVC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use these on every HR we have. Damn near plug and play.
What MFG-SSD are you using? I have a WD BLUE 1TB SSD in my Dock -- I may get one for my Hr54 at some point (the link you posted) you get the case and the cords for $48 I would put a 2TB SSD WD Blue drive in and they about $203 -- DO you know what SSD dive is inside?
I have the same blue 1tb ssd. It seems to work fine but that enclosure doesn't work any longer. I had 2 of them and one is still functional. I'm going to call about warranty later.
Was it the Oyen MiniPro that Rich included a link to in post #33, above, or a different Oyen enclosure/dock?
I have a Crucial 2TB SSD in one of my HRs. My 54 has a WD Blue 2TB SSD on it. The other three have Samsung EVOs on them. Two of them have 1TB EVOs and the other one has 500GB EVO on it. I can't quite understand your last question, a word is misspelled.
Which external device isn't working?
He wrote this earlier, which is why I asked him if it was the Oyen MiniPro you'd linked to or another Oyen... but he hasn't responded yet:
I meant What drive comes in the enclosure from Amazon link
