Just wondered if anyone in the Utica/Rome area has seen their locals yet? If so, what channels were included in your package?

Yes they were turned on Wednesday, Nov 9

    2 WKTV Utica NBC HD
3 CW Utica CW (from WKTV not in HD)
    5 WTVH Syracuse CBS-HD
    33 WFXH Utica Fox-HD
65 PBS DNS from Washington (not from Syracuse in HD as promised)

    Shut off are

60 ABC -HD virt. feed from NYC
61 CBS -HD virt. feed from NYC
62 FOX - HD virt. feed from NYC
64 CW virt. feed from NYC

I had to call to change No Locals package to the locals package in order to receive the locals. Eliminated DNS except for NBC which saved some money. Kept NBC for now to see how reliable WKTV is in upfeeding.

Curious. Can't understand why Watertown doesn't get Syracuse or Utica for our NBC, since it's close and sometimes receiveable, Over The Air. We get our local PBS, but it's not in HD quality either. Is the Washington DC PBS SD channel in widescreen? Our local PBS, WPBS is in widescreen, but has pillarbars. It's stupid. At least we have an Over The Air option. Our local PBS is on RF channel 41. Can you folks, down in Utica, receive it Over The Air? It's to our south-east, so it would be about 65 miles North, North West of you. Anyone in the Rome area should have no problem picking it up.

Our local news reported last night that we are going to be getting our locals in HD December 15. I cannot find any verification of this on Directv's site or anywhere else. Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

    Thanks.

I have heard from several sources that our HD locals (Columbus / Tupelo, MS) would be up in late 2011 or early 2012. There has been no confirmation from D*, but several local people in the know have given me that date or dates. I hope it is true.

Will see how the week to week data sorts out!

If this is true : GREAT news!! It means Directv is finally going to transition the 16 SD only mid markets to HD. (Chico, CA only one so far).

Per a reply by one of our stations to a letter to the editor in the Bakersfield Californian it looks like Bakersfield CA is still a couple years away.

"We are told that DIRECTV will be transitioning by the end of 2013 to a local receive station, giving it the ability to retransmit the local stations on its system in HD. We have not received a date for this upgrade."

    Ask The Californian

I don't know how I will react when Bakersfield finally gets locals in HD. I have been waiting so long it would be laughable, if it wasn't so depressing. Five years of calling and hearing the same response over and over. "We have no information on that." I have grown to hate Directv and the way they operate with a passion, but I've also come to the futile realization that all the other options for television service suck just as bad, if not worse. I look forward to the day where I get to make the leap into the 21st century and watch a Super Bowl in HD. I hope to god that we don't have to wait until 2013. I think I'll snap long before that.

I am going to doubt this. Eugene, Oregon is the second largest market left without HD locals (after Lansing, Michigan) and there appears to be no timeframe for us to get them. All of the locals here broadcast in HD, via OTA, so I know DirecTV is recieving them in HD and then chopping and downcoverting them to SD. It doesn't make any sense to me.

I wish we could qualify for HD DNS if we only get SD locals.

The Guide Information reads "CW television services from WLYHDT-TV 15." A lot of shows in the guide have the HD symbol but this station is operated by WHP TV in Harrisburg. In the guide "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" are shown in HD but are never shown that way because the station does not have an HD video recorder.I would assume the same problem exists for syndicated programming on WLYH. We may know more when CW network programming is on later tonight.

    Indeed, you are correct!
It showed up today on my review but in a very atypical slot.

It is beamed from NET 15 D10/D12 at 103 on a CONUS Redirect to Transponder TPN #16
