I'm still wondering if 25 is WACS (GPB) mislabeled.... or if WJXX is unrelated. I just find it hard to believe that they would import from Jacksonville... when they could from either the other two DMAs or NY.

Correct! HOWEVER, I suspect that the CW is simply WDCW (channel 384) being brought down to the locals range (like they usually do). If memory serves, the CW is usually placed on channel 14... but since WABW (GPB) is there, they placed it at channel 17... which if memory serves, is their second place choice.

WSWG... which is sorta Albany's CBS affiliate, yet sorta not, has a VERY small signal range... in fact, their signal range doesn't even reach the City of Albany... so it's possible that they are having issues with the signal. Dish Network offers it in SD and HD, so I can only imagine it's a matter of time.

Technically, it's not eligible for Must Carry, so I'm guessing DirecTV could offer CBS from NY if they wanted to....

Markets with two PBSs that show the same programming only receive one of them. There are multiple instances of this in Alabama with APT. Huntsville has WHIQ and WFIQ, but only receives WFIQ.

If they put up a channel 25 and gave it the name WJXX, I have a difficult time believing it was coincidence.

There's only one other example of a market receiving WDCW when channel 14 was already occupied - El Paso TX (and this is actually labeled incorrectly on my charts right now). In that case, CW was simply placed on the next number up...15. I think it's no coincidence that Jacksonville's CW is on channel 17. Also, keep in mind that Biloxi received fill-in CW HD from New Orleans. I think this is reason to be cautiously optimistic.

This is an interesting question with WSWG transmitting from the Albany DMA but being licensed to a city in the Tallahassee DMA. Hard to know what's going on with this one. If they were to import a CBS, though, I suspect it would also come from Jacksonville.

Yeah... I know about the two PBS things... I just wish they would they map it to 25 as well. WACS is just down the road from me... and is the PBS I use. I can't even receive WABW, and it's going to be weird having ABC on 25 and PBS on 25-1, 25-2, 25-3 (on the units I'll have AM21s on).

You're right about channel 15... why the heck did I think it was 17? Maybe the old "Regional WB" channels were placed on 17?!

I HOPE you're right... and I wasn't aware of that about Biloxi, so I'm going to cross my fingers! :D

I've spoken to someone at WSWG before... he explained their thinking... I don't understand or agree with it. I do know that WSWG would pitch a fit if DirecTV were to offer a distant, so I still feel that DirecTV will end up offering them before it's over...

Ultimately, I would suspect they will too, since WSWG is sort of the default CBS for Albany.

    Yep!

You know... I totally forgot to mention that I'm disappointed by the lack of WSST in the list. It would be nice to have as well... :(

The HD spot beams are smaller, so you may have a problem.

Depending on where you live, you may in-fact be able to see the spot-beams from Bangor. When I am camping in Northern NY, I can see the Syracuse spot-beams with ease, so it is possible.

Sounds good. I`ll find out when I switch to HD. I just find it a little expensive paying for the NY and LA networks.

Hello everyone, newbie here so please be kind...... I was wondering if anyone here knows the following: (I am not sure which thread to use for this question)
I just got Directv for the first time in Florida (Fort Myers), I have the HR22-100 HD DVR & a H24-100 HD receiver. All is great my programming is accurate etc.

Here is the catch, I want to take my HR22 with me for a month or two to upstate NY, I have the same dish set up (SL-5LNB with SWM) there, as I do in here Florida. Here in Florida I get ABC,NBC,CBS & FOX (ALL HD) AS PART OF MY LOCALS ONLY but THEY ARE NOT SHOWING UP ON ANY OTHER CHANNELS.
MY question is, will I still be able to view ABC,NBC,CBS & FOX (ALL HD) on some other channels or even from my local channels when I get to NY.?

    Thanks

    Short answer no!

Spot beam is only 100 to 200 miles wide.
Outside of that LIL's (locals in local) are gone.

What you can do is CALL Directv and authorize your box in the new DMA.
Would have to do each time back and forth.

Thanks Doctor J, I thought as much.... so forget about locals for a second, will I still be able to get some version of ABC,NBC,CBS & FOX on some other channels, say the national feeds?
By DMA, do you mean my address upstate?

    Thanks

This website will tell you what channels will be available there:

    http://www.directv.com/locals/

DMA refers to which TV market you will be in up there.
