Curling is awesome and all, but really, there are already a ton of RSNs and HD sports stuff filling all of the 600s, and there is lots of repetition with the HD PPV channels in the 100s. Alot of people, myself included, would also like to see much more HD content in the 200s, 300s, and 500s.

Today's press releases are horrible to me. I don't watch sports, and my #64 DMA gets passed up for HD LiL, while MANY markets below are getting lit.

Frustrating the DirecTV is still the best player in the game, but I gotta vent somewhere.

Look, I am not particlarly happy with the announcement today as to channels... I was born without the "sports gene" and to me all RSN's are useless...

But I wont call them a waste of bandwidth because I know how much so many love their sports... I just hope that future announcements will address the non sports channels that are missing.

Oh, and please DirecTV, please.. get Fox News on line in HD as soon as possible so we dont have to read anymore threads about what a terrible company you are for not having it available.

Useless and a big disappointment for those of us who have no use for sports channels.... 76 percent of new channels sports and only a couple of movie channels...very crappy from my point of view after waiting all this time.

Understand, but as I mentioned it should have said something different.

D* carries all but 4 RSNs nationally I believe. If it were 23 plus the ones already carried, that would mean more RSNs that even exist.

I believe it should have said 23 total which makes sense when you add up the 12 about to launch and the 11 D* already launched. Looks like a typo in the press release.

To get an idea of what ESPN mpeg4 looks like, look at the attachment below. I was able to get the Sox and Angels on both the test channel and on 206.

The blur is from the camera, not the TV or PQ. Remember, my camera is not HD, but to get an idea, look at the ESPN scroll bar at the bottom. On 206 the edges on the text are not as defined and sharp that close up. On the test channel the edges on the text in the scroll bar as crisp and clear even looking at the TV very close up.

You are a wise man. It's much easier to take down PPV if need be down the road to fill a channel when one is worthy of being brought on board. Provides for flexibility.

DirecTV can only upload the material sent to them from the network, they have no control over content being up converted to HD. But, up converted SD at 720p or 1080i is still cleaner and sharper than 480i SD.

Given the compression levels used by DirecTV, yes, indeed. But a high bandwidth 480i channel can look great (with your TV doing the upconversion instead of it being done at the source). Those of us who used to watch full-transponder analog signals from a BUD know how good SD can look.

They could light up the indicators for 720p and 1080i simultaneously. ;)

Are we talking about a c-band dish? I can remember watching reporters hit the deck during Iraq I on back haul feeds! When HBO was free and unscrambled!

RSN..STO (SPORTSTIME OHIO) is supposd to go 24/7 on D11 and its not on the list so the RSN thing is still questionable in my book.

Yeah, I find it interesting that Fox Sports Ohio doesn't even have a full time HD offering, yet they are on this list. STO has had a full time HD offering for some time now with actual original HD programming. They are not on the list.

I guess we will see soon enough!

REALLY? By Sixto's count, that would be in upwards of 19 PPV HD's...
