I did a quick search on this forum but did not see an answer - what receiver will output 1080p? My HR20-700 only does 1080i

So far none of them do, maybe they'll pull a software upgrade trick like E*'s doing and add it to current boxes.

I suspect that the output chips are capable. Why design a chip that can't?

Probably as someone else suggested a software upgrade will enable that feature.

RAD, Not so much a trick as enabling built-in features IMHO. Sort of like the E* Dishplayers and the D* Ultimate TV could have the hard drive upgraded by the end user. No tricks, just using already existing capabilities.

If you don't want those channels, simply don't subscribe.

All I said is you can at least see what actually gets added before you start your bitch fest.

    software upgrade, yes....

but how is DirecTV going to add an extra LED light on the HR20/HR21 front panel?
currently there's only 4 LED lights, with the highest being 1080i....

I'm guessing the 1080i light will remain lit.

Have none of the light up or have 1080 blink could be a couple options.

If it were up to me, I'll update the DirecTV HD DVR software so the
4 LED lights blink simultanrously like this:

    .---- ----- ---.. ----- .--.

    . for short blink
    _ for long blink

(by the way, that's "1080p" in Morse code) :D

Given the propensity for D*'s DVR's to go on the fritz maybe

    ... --- ... / ... --- ...

    would be more appropriate :)

Indicating the receiver is outputting 1080p is simple: just light up both the 720p and 1080i LEDs.

Since I'm new here, I can't post the link to the complete second quarter results press release that came out today, but it includes the following:
'Carey concluded, "As we head into the second half of 2008, we are poised to extend our video leadership position as we significantly expand our industry-leading HD lineup with the launch next week of more than 30 new channels, bringing our total HD offering to 130 channels.'

Sounds like we get all the new channels next week not just a rollout "beginning" next week.

They launched a couple more HD-PPV today. Looks like 18 HP-PPV now.

All showing the same movie on multiple channels. Again, why do we need so many PPV's?
