I had a repair scheduled this past Saturday. The service tech gave me his personal number in case the repair didn't fix the problem. I've had this happen in the past. Why does the tech prefer you call him back to fix the problem and not Directv? Does the tech get a higher fee if Directv doens't have to return to fix the initial problem?

I'm not an installer but I'm pretty sure that call backs routed through DIRECTV = less income for the installer/tech.

I am not an installer but I would prefer to be contacted directly if something I just did was not working correctly. When I was working, problems or mistakes got taken care of first on my list of things to do.

The local power company man gave me his cell phone number to call if I had any further problems. I called it a month later and he was to my house in about 20 minutes.

I think it is a good thing.

Unfortunately, his repair did not solve the problem so I called him first thing the next morning. He told me couldn't come out until after his last call. I hadn't heard from his by 6pm so I called him and he said he wouldn't be able to get to my house at the earliest 10pm.

Needless to say, he didn't show up or call. Do I give him the benefit of the doubt and call him this morning? Of do I say "Screw it" and call directv. He seemed like a nice guy but I can't stand when someone doesn't follow up. And I think I should have been his first repair on Saturday rather than the last.

Tell him he left some tools and his meter on your roof.

You had a issue that should have been corrected at the time of your scheduled repair appointment on Saturday but wasn't. You called the service tech on Sunday and got the runaround. Given that your best option is to call DirecTV.

I'll agree with MysteryMan there. You gave the tech a chance to correct the issue and they blew you off. Now go through DirecTV.

Just got off the phone with Directv and described the issue. Within minutes of getting off the phone with Directv, the local rep called and tried scheduling an appointment with the original tech. Needless to say, I told them I wanted another tech.

The problem with this is that he has to "squeeze" you in his route. depending on how large his market is, he may not be close to you and as such he has to do his schedule appointments first and make you last.

While I agree with your explanation I also agree with the saying "Never make a promise you cannot keep". When a Service Tech leaves his phone number with a customer he's giving the impression he'll be at the customer's disposal which we both know is false.
