They only used ESPN Classic for one regularly scheduled game last season, a game that would have been on the ACC Network. The only other "live" use was for the sights and sounds feed of the CFB final megacast which is also available on ESPN3.

Between SEC Network in some cases, Goal Line and ESPNEWS, who now has those potential overflow hours at around 3pm ET and 7pm ET scheduled for a Goal Line simulcast as filler, they didn't need to utilize ESPN Classic for overflows last season, and with ACC Network they'll have another potential outlet for overflows when there's no conflicts. There were also weeks where they were able to use ESPN2 and ESPNU for the overflow.

Clearly a part of the pressure to get providers to pick up the channel. Straight out of the ESPN playbook all the way back to the launch of ESPN2. Take "must see" content and put it on the new channel and make customers demand it.

While there certainly is good football content in the ACC (and thus you see the national champions playing a Thursday night launch game) the ACCN is going to be more about basketball than the SECN, so they are trying to get high end content early. As most non-conference big games are neutral site deals with TV rights held seperatly, they go with very early conference games, which probably does not make the teams happy.

Kly, maybe you would be able to explain this in English. Some of the legal stuff is hard to understand...

What is Wazee digital? I agree with the other poster about ESPN Classic content eventually going to ESPN+, if they have the streaming rights. But I have noticed that all old college basketball highlights are courtesy Wazee Digital, not the network that produced the broadcast, or the network that currently has the rights to the conference of the team in the highlight. From what I can gather, they have the rights to all of the previous NCAA content. If ESPN Classic went to ESPN+, would they lose all of the NCAA basketball content from ESPN Classic? Things like that must be how we still have ESPN Classic as a linear channel.

Any guess if the rights are for all platforms or just satellite?

They're a company that archives back library content and footage from their clients like the NCAA and licenses it to 3rd parties.

Carriage agreement renewals. Fios & Altice are going to have the channel at launch as well. That’s what my alma mater (u of Miami) said in email to us.

Comcast, Spectrum, and Dish are missing from that list - three of the four biggest providers...

Like all other TV Everywhere platforms, they mean that it's only going to be available to authenticated cable subscribers who have the ACC Network.

The ESPN App has multiple levels of authentication that checks for subscriptions to specific channels like ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPNU, SEC Network, Longhorn, Goal Line/Bases Loaded, ACCN as well as ESPN3 for the few remaining ISP only partners from the ESPN 360 days. If you don't subscribe to the corresponding channel, you get an error message if you try to watch the stream of an event airing on the channel, or an event tied to the channel like the SEC Network+ content.

The channel is 3 months away from launching, so they still have time to sign deals. Back when the SEC Network launched a few providers, including DirecTV, didn't come on board until a few weeks prior, while Mediacom signed a deal hours prior to the network's launch.

ACC fans aren't quite so rabid as SEC fans, meaning less risk of losing large numbers of subscribers for not having the channel. So I wouldn't be surprised if there was a big provider sitting on the sidelines for a while at least.

What I hate is directv charges me more for the sports network in my area but doesn't carry the SEC Alternate Channel full time. You would think if they charge folks more for the channel in certain areas than they would carry the Alt Channel full time.

What are you expecting that you aren't getting by not having the alt channel carried 24/7? We get all the games that are on it, the rest of the time the channel is either showing a SEC slideshow/screensaver or simulcasting the main channel. I just checked ESPN's master schedule grids for the alternate, nothing is even scheduled to air on it for the forseable future and nothing has been scheduled on it for the past month.

I’d say they do carry it full time since it’s on whenever they are actually broadcasting on it...

On my local cable company the SEC Alt channel shows a slide when games not on with ESPN music in back ground. Same thing on Goal line and bases loaded.

Kyl, my problem is that Directv doesn't "switch on" the SEC Alt channel when there is overflow programming because the game on the regular SEC channel has run over. The SEC Network will tell you to switch to the SEC Alt channel for the start of the game scheduled, and there will be nothing on 611-1.
