The first Excel attachment to this post, TPN_MAP_Domestic, covers all U.S. DIRECTV Channels and Transponders, CONUS (Continental U.S. or National beams) and LIL (Local-Into -Local or Spot beams). Satellites at the 72.5W, 95W, 99W, 101W, 103W, 110W and 119W positions are included.
Note that at the bottom of the Excel page, there are six tabs or 'sheets':
    • CONUS TPN MAP all CONUS channels in channel number sequence

    • LIL TPN MAP all LIL and OTA channels in network number (market name) sequence

    • LIL MARKET LIST cross reference information necessary to navigate the LIL TPN Map

    • CHANNEL COUNT a count of channels provided per satellite

    • NETWORK DECODER shows the satellites and transponders graphically as they appear on your receiver's signal strength display

    • TUTORIAL a quick procedure to find your LIL transponders for the very first time
A second Excel attachment, TPN_MAP_LatinAm, covers DIRECTV Latin America transponders. Pseudo Network 0 (Beam Oeste) and Network 1 (Beam Sur) are shown; Network 2 (Beam PR) is not yet included.

Additional details for US Domestic channels are available regarding:
OTA (Over The Air) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.
DNS (Distant Network Service) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.
LIL (Local-Into-Local) information and discussion in this DBSTalk thread.
All documents are fully unprotected so you may copy and use the data as you wish.
    .
    .
The 'Attached Files', below, are to the TPN MAPs in the old XLS format stored here on dbstalk.

The Excel file attached in the original post is an XLSX format file, a more current Excel format. Because vBulletin, the dbstalk application, does not allow XLSX files, I have lied and uploaded the file as XLS. After a one-line complaint that the suffix is wrong, your Excel software will open the file with no problems.

I have had to move to this newer format because the filesize of the XLSX is 400% smaller than the older XLS format. There are attachment size limitations at dbstalk; this change allows me to continue to publish a single Excel instead of separate CONUS, LIL, OTA and Hybrid files.

If you have older Excel software, you may need to install the free Excel Viewer, available HERE.

Hey that's awesome OTA is now included in these regular tpn maps. Great stuff guys!

I see there's some hybrid channels in the LIL data now... interesting.

    Thanks!

gct - this is now very frustrating for anyone with older versions of excel. Installing the excel viewer does not seem to be a solution, because you have to decide which one will be used to open excel files. Setting the excel viewer as the default means that using your regular excel spreadsheets is painful.

Okay, let's try another way around this problem.

In the orignal post, I have added a link to a remote server (Doug Brott's) where the old format Excel resides. Let's see if this approach works.

    Let me know................

    please...

Just updated the Domestic TPN Map to data of 9/28/11. Thanks again to Doctor J!

You will notice some additional information and cleaner formatting. It has taken some effort, but I think we have a more robust, more accurate TPN MAP than we have ever had!

First - thanks to Stuart Sweet, who has made the XLSX format supported by dbstalk. As you know, this is the newer, much more compact format used by Excel since 2003.

Stuart has suggested an alternative that may help many of you who are frustrated with the limitations of the free Excel Viewer.

Here is the intro from the Microsoft Compatibility Pack:
Install this compatibility pack if you would like to open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations that were created in the newer versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Scroll down to see instructions and system requirements.

The Compatibility Pack is available for any version of office since Office XP.

Click here to get the compatibility pack. (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3)

Please respond with your experience with this Compatibility Pack option; hopefully it will be a help for you in many different situations.

I can tell you none of those locals are on a conus beam, only a spot beam.

    vredeling,

Taking Davenport, IA as an example...

    • the LIL Market List tab shows it as network 563
    • the LIL TPN MAP shows network 563 records, other than the "note, your local channels have moved..." entries, are all from Spot Beam 103S, that is - from D10 or D12 spot beams which emanate from the 103W slot.
The old channels, MPEG-2 channels from the 72.5W sat, were replaced with MPEG-4 channels from 103W. Yup: A double whammy - the source sat changed and the encoding changed from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 all at the same time.

I hope this is making some sense now?
