OK, problem resolved, this is what DTV Tech Support says what happened:

On January 1st the AT&T merged billing systems (for landline phone and DirecTV) dropped (behind the scenes) a "4K Service" $0.00 line which does not appear on our bills and can only be seen by their reps. Once the rep added the "4K Service" back to my acct. the 4K channels opened up again and error code 721 disappeared.

So trying to refresh signal (online or on the phone) to get code 721 to go away never worked because it was being overridden by the missing "4K Service" on the account.

As a routine matter, the "4K service" is automatically added to all accounts activating 4K equipment but on January 1st it got deleted. Hopefully it won't be an annual thing.

If anyone has this problem just know to call tech support and ask for the "4K service" to be added back to your account on their end. There's nothing you can do on your end to fix it without calling them.

Good, not having the bundled billing saved you this headache.

BTW do you have any idea why DTV has not put up yet the January 2019 4K Events Schedule ? They still have Dec. 2018 up. I can't remember it ever taking this long for a new month to be released.

Well 2 years ago it ( my DirecTV bill) was bundled with Verizon landline but since att took over they stopped bundling.

I'm not sure. If I were to take a wild guess, the person or team that updates the schedule is out of office for the holidays, hopefully they update it Monday

I too have been waiting so i can update my monthly 4k schedule .

One good thing this month is fubo and altice only have 4 soccer events and 0 NBA

Yes, with DTV we're getting a good number of NBA 4K games so far this month, and they look great as always. The Canadian sports network keeps doing superb 4K work. They're getting me to like the Raptors !

    From the Tv Answerman:

So I wonder if Fox has a second 4K production truck, or they are merely taking advantage of geographical proximity of some of these games where there is only a one day gap (i.e. Villanova & Seton Hall, Northwestern & Marquette) that would be a short drive.

Guess we would find out if they ever have a really bad snowstorm hit the area and the scheduled 4K game isn't shown in 4K :)

I saw the college basketball was loaded on the DirecTV guide last Saturday

I'm assuming if the event (dog show) is on FS1 it will be on D* and the other providers they (fox sports) have 4k agreements with (altice , dish , fubo TV, Layer 3)

Chelsea/Arsenal has been awful today. Many video drops, signal drops... you name it. I could ask if anyone at DirecTV even monitors for stuff like this but.... it's silly to expect any semblance of quality in the year of 2019.
