Today's Butler/Seton Hall game wasn't all that great in 4k. An entire 1/3 of the right side of the screen had video of both coaches the entire game. And the bottom third of the screen was some kind of black graphic image with the score on top of it. Not sure why FS1 decided to do this. Who wants to see the coaches the entire game?

man city v arsenal in 4k was a joke today! started 20 minutes late followed by audio/visual dropouts about once a minute. i gave up after about 5 minutes and switched back to NBCsn. what's up with the EPL 4k feeds? they are nearly always full of audio dropouts followed by several seconds of black screen. not even worth watching

It's been like that during the first half of games lately. Then the second half tends to be better for the most part. Still it's highly annoying and inexcusable that DirecTV keeps letting issues like this linger while not doing anything to fix this.

Looking for an excuse not to watch. I first come on this site looking for information on HD tv. I brought a 4K tv three years ago and been disappointed in the lack of 4K especially in sports.

Since CBS owns March Madness and AFAIK haven't done any 4K except a few golf tournaments I wouldn't count on it. But it would be a good place for them to debut some 4K if they are wanting to expand their offerings to other sports. Especially since a lot of the early round games are on cable stations like TruTV so they don't have local affiliates to worry about - so it is probably more likely in the early rounds IMHO.

This afternoon right at the top of the 4K Pebble Beach Golf coverage this happened: the CEO of AT&T Communications (not Randall, some other guy with the CEO title in the graphics) showed up on camera to talk about how proud they were to showcase DirecTV's "amazing 4K picture" at Pebble Beach and through other 4K sports events. He said AT&T and DirecTV were committed to being the leaders in 4K. He was on location at the golf course.

When he finished talking they tossed to the play-by-play announcers who began to explain 4K and the 4K tech standards superiority versus regular HD. They did this with an on-screen graphic listing the 2160p vs. 1080, "millions more pixels", etc. and some other "highlights" of watching the 4K shows. It looked like an on-air promotion for getting 4K service but was being done "live" as part of the golf broadcast.

Has DirecTV (or AT&T) done this before ? Having their CEO on camera to talk about 4K and how proud they were of it ?

If someone saw the broadcast on the non-4K regular network carrying Pebble Beach--- did all this 4K stuff air there also ???

No. The golf channel broadcast was totally different. But how great was that in 4K. One can only dream when everything is broadcast in 4K. Felt like I was at pebble beach.

If you think Pebble Beach was good, wait till April at The Masters!

The off camera during commercial breaks is blurry

Usually looks better during other sporting events

Much better they changed it to one of the on the floor cameras

Yes, agree, not a very good 4K broadcast. Sports events have looked a lot better. One of the cameras earlier tonight was not even 4K. Also lots of black-outs.

It is the first year they do this in 4K so maybe next year they might get it right. Or perhaps tomorrow night....

Today would have been a big 4k day if
    Fox had nascar in 4k
And Turner / Warner/ At&t had NBA ASG in 4k

NASCAR was on Fox broadcast ... a national 4K feed would have infringed on the affiliation agreement for the local stations.

Yet Fox was able to offer World Cup games in 4K which were available on Fox nationally.
