The only thing I hate is that the behind the plate camera is obviously not a 4K camera. Wondering what the thinking was behind that?

Yeah, I noticed that too, those camera shots from behind the mound stood out against all the other ones.

But I thought it was more of a chroma calibration issue, it was much lower, so I wasn't too sure that it was not 4K. This one had me stumped.

Agreed! Until yesterday, my wife has been saying she hasn't noticed much of a difference between HD and 4K (a difference, but not a 'dramatic' one). When I put on that ball game yesterday she said 'WOW, now I see it!'. It did look incredible for sure. I walked right up to my TV and it didn't matter how close to it I was - awesome picture.

Isn't the behind the plate cam built into the wall? It might be up to the stadium owners/managers to upgrade those fixed cameras.

Hmm Idk. I didn't really get that wow 4K picture that I was was used to from last year. Seemed like it was upscaled HD cameras. I know the MLB Network 4k broadcasts are always amazing but this was from FS1. I'll have to rewatch it again but my initial impression wasn't that great.

Definitely not an upscale to 4K, maybe one camera but that's it.... Did you check that the 4K box did not get checked off in your receiver's settings ?

So now we know why they need to add those 2 new 4K channels 107 and 108.... On Saturday April 13 they need to clear 3 live sports 4K channels simultaneously as The Masters are taking up 2 channels beginning at 12 Noon and there is a MLB game at 4PM... And on Sunday April 14 they need to air an English Premiere League Game at midday while also clearing 2 other channels for The Masters also beginning at 12 Noon...

I'm assuming this is the first time we will be getting 3 live sports 4K channels running at the same time, right ? So guessing that Chs. 107 and 108 will go live sometime next week...

Yes, I checked and the 4k box was checked. Some of the camera angles looked fine like the side angles facing home plate. But some of the camera's weren't as impressive as they were in the past MLB 4k broadcasts. Even the main camera from the pitcher's mound facing the batter was just okay IMO. In the past the crowd looked a lot sharper. It was still better than HD but I've seen better 4k broadcasts. But idk maybe it's just me. I'll check out the next MLB broadcast and see if it's any better. I know I liked the MLB network broadcasts better than the FS1 broadcasts, but I am only seeing fs1 broadcasts so far this year.

They are in test, so you won't see them in your guide until they go live.

OK, so they added the new 4K channels this afternoon (107 & 108)... But in the process they've realigned which 4K channels do what, it's now more organized:

Ch. 104= DirecTV's Basic 4K Channel (no change)
    Ch.105= 4K Live Events (prev. 4K PPV)
Ch.106= 4K Live Events (no change)
Ch. 107= Overflow 4K Live Events & 4K PPV movies (no HDR) (new)
Ch.108= 4K HDR PPV movies (new)

So they broke up the PPV movie channels by 4K and 4K HDR, that's a good move ! And all the non-PPV channels are together now (chs. 104-106)

    From the TV Answerman:

FuboTV has announced its upcoming lineup of 4K programs, and for the first time, it includes two NASCAR races.

The first race, which will be simulcast in high-def on FS1, will be the Gander RV 400 (NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series) on Sunday, May 5, from the Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware. The 4K coverage will begin at 2 p.m. ET.

The next 4K race will be the KC Masterpiece 400 (NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series) from the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, May 11 at 7;30 p.m. ET. FS1 will also simulcast that race in high-def.

Over the next several weeks, FuboTV, the only live streaming service that offers 4K programming, will also stream four Major League Baseball games and four English Premier League soccer matches in 4K. See fubo’s 4K schedule for more information.

Final note: While fuboTV is the only live streaming service that offers live 4K events, DIRECTV has aired NASCAR races in 4K since 2017. The satcaster has yet to announce its May schedule for 4K programming.

Yep, I mentioned those upcoming NASCAR 4K races back in February:

As for upcoming MLB from FS1, currently flagged as 4K on their MLB schedule:
    4/13 Rockies @ Giants
    4/20 Giants @ Pirates
    4/27 Indians @ Astros
    5/4 Cardinals @ Cubs
    7/20 Nationals @ Braves
    7/27 Yankees @ Red Sox
    8/3 Red Sox @ Yankees
(Mid-May - Mid-July is when Fox has their Saturday MLB games)

There will also be a bunch of weeknight MLB Network Showcase games in 4K during the season.

Probably safe to assume anything on FS1 that's advertised as being in 4K by someone else like Fubo will also be carried in 4K by Directv.
