Toronto FC home games are available in 4K through TSN and whatever providers in Canada offer it. The MLS All Star game will be the first in America to be available in 4K for us. Hopefully this means more MLS games will be available in 4K.

Also I'm assuming the All Star game is available in 4K due to international broadcasters also wanting it in available in 4K for their own broadcasts.

The All-Star Game is being held in Orlando so this could be a good sign for USA-based 4K regular season games in the future. Orlando City Stadium was recently built so maybe they’re getting outfitted w/ 4K gear ?

Also wondering why we can’t get the Toronto FC 4K games since we already get some Toronto Raptors NBA 4K games, also coming from their Canadian broadcaster.

could they have 4K for NHL CI, MLB EI, NBA LP??
May not want to pay the fees to get TSN 4k and Rogers 4K. But say an US RSN has 4k? will they mirror it to out of market range.

I believe we get those raptors games because NBA TV picks up those games with the TSN broadcast. Not sure if any US based channels provide Toronto FC games during the season.

No channel in the USA provides the Toronto FC 4K feeds as of right now. Not even on MLS Direct Kick or ESPN+ for that matter. I have gotten my fair share of TSN broadcasts on both MLS Direct Kick and ESPN+ over the years. I actually like Luke Wileman on commentary he's one of the better announcers in the league alongside Keith Costigan, Max Bretos, Dan Kelly, Callium Williams* and Brad Feldman.

*Chris Lidholm to me is still the true voice of Minnesota United (and Stars/Thunder prior to that).

DIRECTV has about 20 million customers, all of Canada has 37 million people, they have a linear channel in 4K and the US doesn't, what's up with that?

To be fair the TSN 4K channel (along with SportsNet 4K) are part time channels only running for the few live games they have in 4K.

You would think juggernaut ESPN would have something like that by now.

I expected both ESPN and HBO to have linear 4K by now. ESPN especially since ESPN was "cutting edge" with their 3D studio and channel (which was also 4K ready before 4K became the next big thing). But ESPN went through cutbacks. I have not looked at their financials, but based on other companies I would not say ESPN+ has a major positive impact. ESPN continues to exist because of the millions of customers paying for a subscription via the old package tier system. Customers like me who have not watched one minute of ESPN programming in the past five years but still pay for the channels as part of a programming package.

HBO remains my #1 hope for a linear 4K channel. But they will need to purchase content. If it follows the same schedule as the regular HBO there will be hours of upconversion per day, similar to when HBO HD got the same schedule as HBO SD. With a separate schedule it would be a good way to distribute 4K.

But the question for both channels is "why". With no one else rushing toward the 4K market what would ESPN and HBO gain? Other than massive debt from launching a new channel. I don't see where it financially makes sense at this time. On Demand in 4K is likely ... but no linear channel.

Disney/ABC/ESPN hasn't put on a single 4K event to my knowledge. Fox has been doing 4K sports for several years. So I expect to see FS1 4K long before there's an ESPN 4K. They will have to do some test events that will show on channel 106 like the FS1 stuff before they can even THINK of doing a real full time 4K channel. So I wouldn't expect to see ESPN4K until 2021 at the earliest.

I wonder if they might be waiting for 120 fps 4K to be ready before bothering, that's (IMHO) the killer feature justifying 4K sports. Better resolution is nice, as is HDR, but 120 fps will have a far bigger impact. Now that HDMI 2.1 is out, the next step will be for TVs to come out that can accept 4Kp120 input (so far there are none, but I would bet next year's LG OLEDs will) and Directv will need a new 4K client with HDMI 2.1.

Does anyone know what time The Open starts for the 4K coverage Thursday through Sunday? I know there is a 6 hour time difference so I suspect early in the day but the guide doesn't list the time it starts on channel 105.

So? That's a single company, and they probably own the rights. If Comcast cable showed all the Cubs home games in 4K how would they help Directv subscribers, or have any meaning as far as a full time 4K channel available to all providers?

What time zone are you referring to? I'm 6 hours behind the UK time zone here in the Central Time Zone. So 1:30 am Central would be 7:30 am UK. Don't they usually start the TV coverage a few hours after the first tee off?
