Thanks...just found this on their website:

"DIRECTV, the first U.S. pay-TV provider to broadcast live sports in 4K HDR, will be the exclusive live, 4K carrier of this weekend’s Scotland-based golf championship The Open. The tournament starts live, Thursday, July 19 at 1:30 a.m. ET. Catch coverage of holes 1 and 18 on DIRECTV 4K Channel 106."

Looks like we finally got a 4K camera behind the mound. Really makes a difference in the overall broadcast.

Yes, finally, and it looks great ! Also, the stadium wide-shot camera from atop has stunning 4K.

I just tuned in to the MLS All-Star Game on 105 and the picture looks pretty awful. Lots of skipped frames on the live action, production has a film look to it or internet streaming look, not a live event look at all. Can anyone figure out what's going on with this awful 4K picture ? Stadium cameras ? Stadium bad lighting ?

BTW 4K on 104 looks as great as always, so it's not my receiver.

I had pretty much the same problem. When everything was still like in interviews or the pregame show, the 4k resolution and HDR looked great. But once there was any movement or action, the picture just looked shaky. It might be judder? Not sure but it did not look right and Ive never seen this on any 4k or HD broadcasts. Something was wrong with their cameras or production.

Yes, it looked like they took the FS1 App 4K streaming video and sent it over to DTV. Or maybe DTV took the streaming video source instead of the usual straight from the stadium production broadcast---it had a strange film look to it, lacking the brightness & contrast we see on live sports.

Also, super juddery video with the frame rates messed up-- they kept skipping 1-2 frames per movement, certainly not how 2160p (or any progressive scan) is supposed to behave. I kept going back to Ch. 104 to make sure my receiver was not failing and Ch. 104 looked perfect as always.

And like you said, we've never seen 4K like this on DTV before. Hopefully this is not the start of a new production trend for 4K. Or that DTV (or Fox) is trying to cut corners with the 4K broadcasts. I hope it's a one-off.

I was watching the yankees/red sox games in 4k, and there was something off with the motion again. Not sure what's going on but these last two 4k broadcasts from fs1 are the only times I've ever noticed it.

Yes, I noticed it, too. The juddery motion/ frame rate off was most visible when the batters were running between bases. Picture was not as bad as the MLS All-Star Game but it wasn't anywhere as good as past 4K baseball either.

It's now 2 in a row from FS1 that are behaving quite differently from past 4K. Wondering if they've switched to a new streaming-type distribution system to match their new FoxSports App with 4K.

I hope they fix this soon, especially since the NFL 4K games are coming.

New to 4K, do you need the ST to get the NFL 4K games?

The NFL 4K games will come from Fox/ NFL Network "Thursday night" national games, so they are outside NFL Sunday Ticket's schedule. No additional cost except your 4K setup.

Everyone here is quite excited about the NFL in 4K so enjoy...

And welcome to DBS Talk, hope you enjoy coming here !

NFL in 4K this season? I'm shocked there is not a separate thread to discuss.
