Did anyone else see the Commercial Payton Manning did on a Sunday ticket about 4K games coming to directv? It was a good commercial. I can hardly wait.

Thanks @BigRedFan for noticing the guide update.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I don’t watch hoops. Wondering why the same can’t be done for Rogers 4K hockey then.

We had one game in 4K two seasons ago that was through NHL network. That’s it.

Agree, great commercial ! The Payton Manning 4K pitch should bring alot more eyeballs to check out DTV's 4K picture, programs and equipment.

With the expected increase in 4K subs there may also be more technical scrutiny on what DTV is doing. Let's hope this will force DTV to fix the frame rates issue and the Error Code 721 issue on Ch. 104 (whenever there's a programming change).

    Bad news on TVTechnology.com

    Fox Sports NFL in 4K

The broadcaster chose the 1080p HD HDR conversion approach rather than native 4K HDR production to minimize resources needed for the production, such as server capacity that would require four times the storage budget for four times the resolution, as well as to maintain the level of production viewers have come to expect, he says.

So not sure about 2016 but yes DirecTV has FS1 4k events

Very disappointing news. I was really looking forward to the NFL in 4k. It makes no sense to me since Fox already does real 4k for college football.

Exactly I'm puzzled as to the source because fox sports events look a lot better than NBC sports events in 4k

I'm guessing what this means is that Fox probably has just the one 4K production truck, and the logistics of getting it from a Thursday night NFL game to a Saturday college game are infeasible, so they're just going to use the regular HD truck and upconvert.

If they upconvert these NFL games it doesn't bode well for the future of 4K as it would indicate they don't believe the additional investment in 4K production equipment is justified.

Which is probably reasonable - are they going to get even ONE more person watching the Thursday night NFL games because they're 4K? Probably not. At first some people might have watched stuff because it was 4K, but the novelty quickly wears off. In order to justify the investment in 4K production, they have to have a way of making more money off doing games in 4K rather than HD. With SD->HD they could - they charged more for the channels which the cable/satellite providers made up for by charging an 'HD fee'. They can't do that for 4K in the age of people cutting the cord over price, and without more people watching they can't get higher ad rates. There's no one to pay for the 4K broadcasts...

Then buy another 4K truck. LOL. I know, its all about the money.

I agree though, I’m kind of over this whole 4K thing myself.

It’s just sad they advertise it in 4K when its not really in 4K.

The only thing that will spur more 4K broadcasts is competition. Good chance that Fox kept the 4K production truck on NCAAF so their game could stand out as a 4K broadcast against the multitude of games in the same timeslot. Shifting the truck to TNF would not have given them a similar advantage.
