Disappointing news about the upconversion for sure but on the bright side maybe the one native 4K truck will be available for the playoffs at the end of the season...

Possible but they need to clear it with the affiliates to avoid the blackout they had on the Fox Sports app when they televised the Women's World Cup Final.

The only reason I even got Directv was because of the Summer Olympics being in 4k in Aug 2016. And I usually don't care for Thursday Night games because a lot of the games have been kind of boring. But I am more intrigued to watch if it's in 4k. And I still watching programming that's on the 4k channel that I normally would not care for if it was just in HD.

Never gonna happen, for the same reason you won't see the Super Bowl in 4K anytime soon. The local affiliates aren't going to allow it. The only reason Fox is able to do it for the Thursday night games is that they're carried via a different contract and already available on a separate channel (NFL Network)

Given that ABC/ESPN has never produced a single event in 4K, there is no competition to speak of. CBS carries a few events in 4K, mostly golf. Ditto for NBC, though they have the ND games but those have been upconverted since the first year.

No one seems to think it is worth the investment, and the "competitive advantage" only matters if they can somehow get more money from that. Are you really going to watch a college football game on FS1 if its in 4K over one on ABC/ESPN in 720p or CBS in 1080i? People choose what to watch by who's playing, not resolution.

Well if that’s the case then why is Fox (and more importantly the NFL) even bothering to provide us the faux 4K Thursday night games? That’s the sports TV equivalent of the hot girl from school promising to meet you at the no tell motel and then not showing up for the big event!

I'd say it's more like the hot girl from school promising to meet you at the No Tell Motel and making you wear a condom all during the big event!

Well looks like the ESPN to 105 workaround is no longer working...watching the Chelsea/Liverpool match now and it is stutter city!

I did that ESPN workaround yesterday and it work for the FS1 game and I got 60fps

Just tested just now and still working

Went from local fox station to 105

Interesting side note, the tv shows HDR but I know soccer games are NOT HDR...

    I think it's a 2016 samsung tv model

Also 2 other workarounds previously mentioned (turning receiver off and then back on or turning 4K resolution off and then back on in settings) also no longer working...anyone else seeing this?

Is your C61K showing firmware 0x1200?

Latest software is 0x1200. Previous version was 0x11fe.
I've had it with these idiots. No point in paying extra for this garbage. Might as well cancel the 4K service.

It’s interesting that DTV757 is not seeing this on his Samsung....and Teddy and myself are with our LG OLEDs...

    @Steady Teddy

What prompted DirecTV to remove the native resolution setting from the menu? Any idea?

Because AT&T is in charge now.

My guess is they probably had too many complaints that it took too long to change channels from a 720p channel to a 1080i channel, and vise versa. All they had to do was make native off default and let the rest of us change it to native on if we wanted.

I flipped from my Fox affiliate to channel 105 frame rate was fine during Chelsea vs Liverpool. Watching the game in 4K however..... didn't make losing any less painful.

What brand TV do you have and what DirecTV equipment do you have?

I think I know now why our previous workarounds are no longer working...the 0x1200 firmware update to the C61K has resulted in the previously 720p channels (Fox, ESPN etc) now being sent in 1080i...

Dragged out the Sammy 4K from the other room since the LG main display can’t show frame rate.

Samsung still shows 60fps HDR and pretty smooth. Choppiness on the LG B6P is nowhere near as bad as switching from 1080i, but’s it’s bad and I have no way to check the true FPS. Those with Samsung displays may not be seeing what the rest of us are seeing.
