I wonder if Altitude will also throw in some Colorado Rapids games in 4K as well? That might make it somewhat worth watching their broadcasts even if one has to suffer through listening to Ricardo Fleming who is dreadfully boring.

I am sorry for your loss.

Is there some other content that is being bumped for the regional Altitude carriage? Or would you rather have the channel empty than showing regional content?

At least the description now states "altitude customer or league pass ... "

The description for ( last night's) pacers @ Nuggets game says : " Altitude sports subscribers and League pass subscribers...

Yes if I am on DirecTV/AT&T’s management team I would rather regional 4K content not be shown if my business goals include using 4K sports content as a hook to perhaps slow the obvious monthly subscriber churn rates we have all been reading about. We’ve all seen the recent Peyton Manning 4K sports ads right? So I see dtv’s excellent spreadsheet on upcoming 4K games and one of them is a hockey game...wow great haven’t seen a 4K hockey game all season. So I make an effort to remind myself to tune in at the required time and....all I see is a friggin BLACK SCREEN! That’s kinda annoying don’t you think? Obviously I don’t have exact numbers but I would bet that greater than 99% of potential viewers of Saturday’s hockey game were unable to view said game due to the blackout rules. Again if your goal is to promote 4K sports in general then perhaps preventing >99% of your potential viewers from viewing that particular event is not the best way to accomplish that goal. Just my humble opinion, nothing more....

Well...I was out of town for a hockey tournament and I DVRd the game...just got home and I am able to view the game...so, either I was able to watch it live when it was on, or maybe since the game is over the blackout restrictions have been lifted for the broadcast I DVRd...
I guess I’ll have to wait for the next Altitude Avalanche 4k broadcast

The point Rick D is making is that 99% of the 4K subscribers are going to get the Error Code 721 when they go watch the game. That will only piss them off more as if they needed another reason to hate DTV more. Most are not here reading the behind-the-scenes reasons why this is happening. So DTV is basically shooting themselves in the foot even if the intent is a good one.

To avoid this they can easily designate Channel 681-1 as Altitude 4K so that the regular Altitude viewers can find the 4K games there without upsetting everyone else, the vast majority of 4K subs.

Could not agree with you more. The more Error Code 721 shows up on the 4K channels the more this will act as a deterrent for 4K subs to check these channels regularly. These blackouts will just have a chilling effect on growing the 4K audience. The law of unintended consequences kicks in.

If a 4K event is meant to have a massive national blackout then it should be moved away from the main 4K channels and housed near the regional channel airing it.

Excellent idea BigRedFan! What they are doing now by lumping the Altitude 4K events with the other “in the clear” 4K events amounts to deceptive advertising IMHO. Yes I realize it mentions Altitude in the info listing but still seems sketchy to me. Your solution would be best for all concerned....

I feel like that would cause issues as well for those who have NBA League Pass and 4k access, but don't live in the Altitude market. I would never remember to check altitude channels at 681 to see if they have a 4k game because I don't know when the Nuggets play at home. I probably would forget what channel Altitude is even on. The way it is now, I check the 4k channels daily so I can record every 4k live sporting event. I personally like it the way it is now. I just have to realize that I won't get the hockey games unless if I live in the Altitude Market or have Center Ice (and even then it might still not work).

so I am about to jump into the 4K world and was told that all I have to do to get 4K is get the TV and put it on my HR44 genie (not a wireless mini) coincidentally I happen to be in Denver but this post says you have to have a C61K receiver, is that true what else do I need to do to watch 4K on Directv?

You have to have a C61K on the 4K TV and you have to either have an HS17 or an HR-54 to feed it the 4K. The HR44 will not work.

The HR44 wasn't designed for 4K service. You need either a HR54 or a HS17. For 4K HDMI output must be 2.0. The HDMI output with the HR54 and HS17 is 1.4. That is why you also need a C61K-700. The C61K-700's HDMI output is 2.0.
