Don Larson's perfect game is the first game of any kind I can actually remember watching as a 5 year old. I think I only saw the last few innings after getting home from kindergarten.
In the show "All Time Games" they are giving Directv MAJOR props for helping the MLB Network get started! They also said they helped in not being selfish and allowed Cableco's get the channel too without any problem! I wonder if this mean that Directv have a major stake in the network or are they just looking at contractual obligation?

Directv has a stake in the MLB network. And Directv doesn't pay a penny to the MLB network to carry it, which is why it is in a package where pretty much everybody can get it.
What a cool broadcast to kick off a new channel. A great truly classic game.
I've never been a Scully-phile, but it was nice to hear Scully and Allen on the broadcast and their ability to just shut up and call the game as it happened. I don't mind a few stories now and then during a broadcast, but I have to wonder when did Scully decide he had to be Aesop. I wonder if any network would have the guts to go minimalist -- get rid of all the crap on the screen, put one announcer in the booth and tell him to call the game, get rid of all the other Sigmund Freud's, and let the game speak for itself.
It's pretty cool to see the old legends in action. I didn't know that Enos Slaughter played into the 50's....I thought he was a 30's-40's guy. And of course, Campanella, Hodges, et. al. And we get to see a young Mickey Mantle before his knees got tore up. Great broadcast.

well they need to fix that issue because Baseball is HUGE with Hispanic people. i'm already upset there taking away(from spanish packages) BET and ESPN 2 later this month..
I agree. Costas doesn't act like he knows it all; McCarver does. Tim attempts to show the world that he's some kind of baseball expert. He was a mediocre player; he's a worse announcer.
Originally, the MLB network was to be started by and on DirecTV, which also would have gotten a major ownership position.
When some of the big cable companies complained, and threatened not to carry it, DirecTV allowed MLB to cut an ownership deal which also included TWC, Cox and Comcast.
Those who didn't pick up MLB EI starting last season (and agree to wide carriage of MLB Net) were supposed to be locked out of MLB EI for a number of years (I believe six.)
So D* apparently COULD have help up the cable guys, but although it lost its exclusive ownership position, did get the channel and access to Comcast's HD Philadelphia Phillies coverage and Cox's HD San Diego Padres coverage via MLB EI.
Neither had been available prior to last year.
In addition, DirecTV, while advertising it would broadcast "more than 10" HD games a week in its MLB EI package, actually provided about 80% in HD, with far more than half available in HD from each team's broadcast.
I am not sure D* actually gets access to MLB Net for no charge, but in return for giving up its exclusivity, it finally broke through and got Comcast and Cox content previously unavailable.

It was on my HR20-700, but NOT on my R-10 so it seemed. I couldn't key in the number with the remote by punching in 213, nor could I scroll to the channel with the up & down arrows. What did work was pulling up the on screen guide & selecting 213 there.
