WTF I had the spanish ultra max and I was not getting this channel I had to change to an english package to get it, now DTV if just getting 72.99 ++ from me instead of $104.99 ++... Unreal... now if I want the spanish programming again it will be $19.99 more, jeezzzz...
1. Love the commercials - My dad never had a birthday when he didn't get one of those $1 razors, and my brother and I got the Gillette Baseball Encyclopedia.
2. Imagine one announcer at a time that actually believed that we understood the game, and didn't need every little thing explained and expanded on endlessly.
3. Ball was used until scuffed or hit into the stands.
4. Love MLB Network and can't wait for the 7th game of the Pirate-Yankee 1960 world series !
31-year veteran umpire, having worked since the early 1990s at the NCAA level. Award-winning graduate of a professional baseball umpire school. Work independent professional baseball as well. Considered a rules guru by those who know me (I run a "You Make the Call" mass Email that goes to a couple hundred people nationwide from March to October each year). Granted, this doesn't make me perfect, but my reputation speaks for itself to those who know me.

I actually like D3 baseball, even though I work D1 and D2 as well. I assign a few D3 schools and some college stuff in the summer, and I work for 5 other college assignors as well.
On an unrelated note, I see that Ken Burns's highly-acclaimed Baseball will show on Tuesday evenings on the network! I have this series on VHS--gasp!--and would love this in HD!
I'm getting the edges of the ticker cut off, I just see "lb.com" in the bottom left corner. Is this just me? I don't have any overscan issues on other channels people commonly complain about like ESPN News...

Nice to see they are not using stretch-o-vision like they did in some parts of the replay clips. The brick laden pillar bars are the most creative and best ones I have seen yet. The PQ is excellent. This is one of the best HD channels I have seen so far. Hopefully they keep it up.
While it is creative, I don't care for the brick pillar bars. There are several problems.
One problem is that the side bars each have the station logo so there are three (yes three) logos on the screen. One is bad enough, three is ridiculous.
A second problem is that not having solid black or grey bars makes image retention more likely. While it would be great if there were only true 16x9 content for all broadcasts, the nature of the archival footage means there will be lots more of 4x3 content. I'm excited about the content, just not image retention from watching too much MLB Network programming.
My plasma has the ability to detect sidebands and automatically stretch content to remove the sidebars. But this mode does not work with the MLB Network sidebands because they aren't a solid black or grey color.
Please don't stretch content for broadcast but please do use standard sidebars since there is technology available to deal with that automatically.
While the brick sidebars seem like a creative idea, the turn out to have many downsides. I hope this gets changed to standard sidebars.
For pure baseball knowledge without the hysterics (e.g. Chris Berman), I can't think of anyone better. Who do you think would be a better choice for his role?
Wow!! It was neat this morning seeing the Brooklyn Dodgers/NY Yankee game from 1955. It brought back a lot of memories, Billy Martin at bat.
They sure have come a long way improving the broadcasting techniques since then. Found it hard to watch a game without the score, balls, strikes etc, displayed on the screen.
Hope they do a few old Red Sox games with Curt Gowdy. That would really bring back memories.
I agree completely. I've always thought he was a great guy talking about sports, especially baseball.
I got even more impressed with him when he had his interview program "Later". He was probably the most well prepared interviewer I'd ever seen and he actually let his guest answer the questions. He had a wide range of guests, not just sports figures, including Paul McCartney for 3 consecutive nights. He was so good that my wife would watch him interview everyone, including sports figures, and she couldn't care less about sports.
I'm not trying to convince anyone that they should like him if they don't. I just want others to know that there are many people who think he's terrific.
I watched the Hot Stove show and Don Larsen game on MLB last night. At about 5:58pm, the signal was terrible looking (lots of pixelation) and I said "here we go again", but by 6pm, it cleared up and looked great. I thought it was going to be 1080i, but my HR20 showed 720p.
I found it amazing that some guy kinetiscoped the game from his TV. Pretty good job considering it was 1956.
I still never saw an answer about whether MLB will be doing their own live games (once the season starts) or simply taking an RSN feed (like NHL Network does). I haven't heard any mention of game commentators for MLB Network, so maybe I have my answer.
Hopefully D* will have a logo for MLB network soon (upper left corner of INFO screen).. right now, it just says something like "MLBH..".
