Is the only Dish receiver other than the vip211k, have no DVR fees, for an account with one receiver? I have read that Dish "may" be discontinuing the vip series in time. I do not want to pay a DVR fee if I don't have to. I read the Hopper/Wally do have the OTA module that can be added on. I probably would purchase my receiver as I do not like leasing, as I have always done. I do plan on keeping my vip211k until I have to replace it. I pay no additional fees, just programming which is nice. I don't need a lot, the vip211k gives me the dual tuner set up OTA/Dish which works just fine.

Thanks. I see the receiver as the DVR HDD upgrade capabilities, I presume similar to the 211k, by adding your own HDD. Could I move my current 1tb HDD over to the Wally, or would I have to buy a new one? Also is the OTA module as good as the one in the 211k? If I add the OTA Module, does the receiver become dual tuner, as the vip211k does? With the 211k, I can watch record Dish or OTA, or both at the same time.

yes, but I would make a copy DishArc folders before connect it to wally - see posts with some quirks of the swap

The $40 EHD fee is a one time per account fee. Replacing the 211k with a Wally should require no additional fee.

Yes, I would add the DVR feature as well as the OTA Module. I had read that the OTA module was not all that sensitive and would not always scan in all channels. At least that was the issue in the beginning. Has those issues been resolved?

As always - it depends on your antenna.

I have the Antenna Direct 91XG high gain yagi connected through a Channel Master amp (probably unneeded), as I am 12.2 miles LOS from the translators (3 are about 5 KW ERP, 1 at 1.8 KW ERP, and the lp one (CBS) at 750w ERP. With the tuner in the vip211k I get 100% on all 5. Even though I am LOS from CBS at 750 watts, I do get an occasional glitch at times. I just wonder how the module compares to the tuner in the 211k. Is it as sensitive?

After I posted my question, I checked reviews of the OTA module. Some people love it and other complained about it over heating and did not scan in every OTA channel and there is(?) no way to add a channel from an individual channel like you can with the vip211k receiver. I would like to get a more modern receiver. They are cheap enough off Amazon.

New dual tuner and dual tuner from AirTv do not overheat.

It doesn't look like the Air TV works with a Wally. It looks like its' separate box, so no way to integrate the OTA channels into the Dish guide on the Wally. Unless someone has something to add, by comparison the vip211k does a better job. If I could get one of the OTA modules that did not overheat, then that could be an option to upgrade to a Wally. Dish did a great job with the vip211k. A lot in a box with no monthly fees.

DISH sells a dual tuner USB that works fine with the Wally. Air TV is a separate product that can be used by people without a DISH receiver (a model works with Sling TV).

Then with the Wally, would I have 3 tuners? Two OTA and one Dish? Can I record all three at the same time?

You can even record all three tuners while watching a pre-recorded program...
