Just started a Dish Network account - told them I only had a clear LOS to 61.5 and would there be any problem, of course they said no.

Dish pointed fine, wiring fine, I get the program guide fine, but with only a few junk channels (6 or 7) - they suggested upgrading the receiver, which we did, (textbook activation - no problem) and it made no difference whatsoever. Technical support has basically given up.

Can you activate a 311 with just 61.5 - I read there was some potential issue activating without 72.2?

The signals/channels I get are perfect - but it's just not what I'm paying for?

    Thanks!

Need a lot more details to try to help you. Who did your install, what package do you have, what kind of troubleshooting did they do? What are you getting on a check switch?

Your system should not have been installed. 61.5 says you are Eastern Arc that requires MPEG4 receivers a 311 is not a MPEG4 receiver only the High Definition receivers are MPEG4. If you can't receive 72.7 you are missing 90% of your programming.

This is exactly what I thought - but Dish assured me that I could get all the programming with just a LOS to 61.5.

    Nice.

    Thanks for the help.

OK - promise you won't laugh - but I can get 72.7 from a tree (a big tree).

So if I repoint there - can I get the "good" 90% of programming? :rolling:

    Thanks again!

Sure sounds like this was not done by a Dish installer or independent contractor?

Update - Dish is sending me a MPEG-4 receiver to replace the DP311 they originally sent.

I guess they didn't realize that most, if not all, of what up on 61.5 in English is MPEG-4.

We'll see - I'm guessing that will fix it. :righton:

There has to be more to the story. Even DISH does not install a 311 on the Eastern arc so I assume you did the install and DISH didn't have the details, or you installed then called DISH.

Now when you have a correct receiver you will get more channels. And you will not get all your programming somewhat depending on your package because you need 72 also, definitely if you get HD. And if your locals are on 61.5 they most likely are only HD so you would need an HD receiver. (There are some SD locals I think but few)

    I'd suggest prunes.

Dish sent me 2 (not 1) DP311 receivers to receive MPEG-4 programming from 61.5/72.7. (I suggested it wouldn't work but they didn't listen)

The first was to replace my old DP301. The second was supposed to be a HD receiver (to replace the DP311 they sent me), but wound up being another DP311.

But yeah - in my dreams even Dish does not install a 311 on the eastern arc.

You need to PM a member of the Dish Internet Response Team (DIRT), they know what they are doing and will certainly fix you up.

To find them go to the members link at the top of the page and more search options, look for member name contains @Dish Network. Within those results select anyone listed as a Dish Representative, these are the DIRT team people - extremely helpful.

If you have your dish on a tree, be prepared to repoint every once in a while.
