EchoStar is preparing for the launch of its next satellite, EchoStar 8, a flight that takes place late tonight or early in the morning Saturday, depending on your location.

The satellite will launch late Friday night Mountain Time (11:15) and Pacific Time, and early Saturday morning Eastern Time (1:15) and Central Time. Lift-off will take place from Kazakhstan, and the satellite will fly aboard a Proton rocket.

International Launch Services, backed by Lockheed Martin, is coordinating the launch. According to ILS, the bird will be located at EchoStar's orbital slot at 110 degrees. Space Systems/Loral built the satellite for the company.

The spot-beam satellite will allow EchoStar to expand local TV offerings and increase in-orbit backup capacity.

    The...
A search on "Echostar 8", "Loral" and "ISL" returned no results. A scan of ch 101 thru 2:00 a.m. ET time slot also yielded nothing.

OTOH, the June customer charlie chat will be rerun tonight at 10 ET. Which would I rather see? Hmmm...

Per dealer chat this past Tuesday, Echostar 8 launches this Saturday morning at 1:15 Eastern. Launch coverage live on channel 101. Get your naps in so you won't be gouchy in the morning.

I wish we had more news than that. Anyone know what the weather is like at Balkanore Cosmodrome? It could be as simple as weather being beyond the mission specs. It could be something technical.

    See ya

Darn, I wish they would get things fixed but at least they found the problem before it launched, bc there would have been a LOT longer delay than this if the satellite was destroyed. Sure would like to have my locals.
