Do you think in the future there will be a Premiere based on the hr24 or hr34?

At some point the THR22 will be very out of date and Directv won't be able to keep that as there only Tivo forever. People who are OK with the series three software now will eventually want something better so I can't see why in the way future Directv won't let Tivo port the Premiere software on to their newer hardware.

Always in motion, is the future. That being said, I can only answer in the present: there is no new model in development.

I think a lot will depend on how many THR22's get sold.

It's a fair question given the Premiere was written to be especially portable - based on Flash. This rework allowed them to provide solutions for RCN and Virgin fairly quick. If you listen to Tivo's earnings calls you'll hear this discussed often enough.

I think the question isn't so much will D* "let them" port it but rather "will they pay Tivo" to do it.

In that light, I'd guess it's not likely.

I would venture to say it has more to do with contractual obligations rather than volume of sales.

Of course. But if the THR22 flies off the shelves, there's more incentive to renegotiate the contracts.

Or if customers start leaving D* after waiting so long for something and being disappointed.

    Not much risk there.

That's just a guess on your part.

I, for one, am leaving D* for just that reason. It's unlikely I would be the only one - I'm not that rare :)

    That makes no sense.

You're leaving because of a product that doesn't exist?

Why did you sign up in the first place?

No, I'm leaving because the THR22 wasn't what I'd hoped. I'm sorry I waited. Had it been as good a DVR as the Tivo Premiere my decision would likely have been different.

    Gotcha.

Although there's been posts here for about the last 2 years stating exactly what the THR22 would be.

Oh? Didn't seem all that specific and credible to me. Seems there was a great deal of speculation on even what hardware it would be based on. Seems there was less than clear info about what extra features it might have as well. But, maybe that's just me.

In any event, I was surprised how poor the HD picture quality was and SD was far worse than expected. The box is pretty noisy too - who built that fan anyway?

I've gone into more details on these issues in other threads here. No sense beating a dead horse. And, no sense trying to convince me I acted irrationally.

I don't think you acted irrationally at all. I know for my part I tried to be as clear as I could be about this being equivalent to an HR10 that gets MPEG4 programming. I'm sorry I failed to convince you earlier.
