I call it the "purple card" encryption system for lack of a better name. I assume the switch will be done only a few channels at a time. Does anyone know the projected timetable?

Not to mention that the stations had to identify themselves on the hour and commercials didn't take up half the program!

    From dish EKB:

Week of March 9 2009. " The new smart cards are being phased in, with premium services getting Nagravision 3 within the next few weeks and the whole enchilada cooked and eaten by Q3."

But I also read that there are more delays now due to lack of new cards. That was posted here.

Dish named the cards as G3 version.

I can't remember exactly but the Broadcaster's code allowed for a max of 60 seconds of commericals every half hour during the day. I think the code allowed 90 seconds of commericals between the hours of midnight and 6AM for the stations that were broadcasting during those hours. The station ID was not included in this time limit. The 15 year Congressional "deregulation" boom that has also caused the current economic meltdown gutted these restrictions. We now have 24 hour commericals called "home shopping channels".

Actually home shopping channels don't bug me because I know what they are and know exactly what to expect from them and they're easy to avoid! :D

Thank god for the DVR. Commercials are something I don't even see now.

See Scott G's post on the other forum. I believe he posted Starz(Encore) were this Wednesday, and most of the other premiums on 4/15.

So I suppose this is why my 921 lost most of its channels today?

    I know, I know; I'm the world's biggest procrastinator.
