Just updated to Genie 2 system and have a client that does not receive a stable connection. It did when I was using the old Genie 1 system with the WVB. Is it possible to add the old WVB back into the mix to extend the signal and run two WVB on the network?

To me there's always been confusion on that issue of a 2nd WVB.

As some say no, but others like in this popular DIRECTV training video for the Genie 2 posted on YT for going on a year and a half now say yes at about the 9:50 mark ...

So not sure, but it would certainly make sense for you to be able to as you surely can't rely solely on the HS17's internal one to adequately cover the area of all installations.

Yes but you need to be putting it close as possible to the client and not near the hs17.

It works but your stable connection is probably due to the poor software that is in the G2 and wireless clients. Freeze/frame pixilation and audio drops are the norm for that setup. It's a known issue.

Yes it does work with an external WVB. MY HS17 is on the first floor which handles a C61W in the master bedroom. I have two C41W's on the second floor which could get a signal from the HS17 but it was a yellow status on the clients. I added a WVB on the second floor and both those clients have green status. The only issue I have is when the HS17 reboots the C61W on the first floor connects to the WVB, since it's still putting out a signal, and then it's signal isn't as stable as when connected to the HS17, so I need to reboot the C61W to get it repaired with the HS17. Other then that no problem.

No problem with my three wireless clients so it's not blanket statement saying it's normal what you have.

    Glad to hear this ...

As the constant complaints I'm getting from the family over the deteriorating performance of the old HR24s here are driving us to seriously consider using our free upgrade to the HS17. Which DIRECTV constantly recommends we do every time I call in on an issue.

We were actually trying to hold out as long as we could with the hope DIRECTV would eventually allow multiple Genies on an account since there will never be a successor to replace the HR24. But that's apparently never going to happen.

    So ....

Maybe you should do like Rich and put SSDs in those HR24s, he says it made them perform so much better he couldn't believe it. 500GB SSDs are very cheap now. Even if you don't own your HR24s, you can always swap the original hard drives back in if you ever have to send them back.

Has anyone ever gotten in trouble from Directv because that little sticker on the back broken? If so I've never heard about it on this forum. By the time you are ready to swap to an HS17 or successor, all HR24s will probably be non-recoverable.

They want some HR24s back. And they most likely do want your HR44 back, they just have such a broken system for handling returns they will sometimes tell people they don't want something back and then a month later they'll get a bill that includes a fee for not returning it.

As always recommended here, hold on to those two for a few months, just in case.....

DIRECTV HS-17 Genie2's can have additional WVB added for extended range...this is usually not necessary but occasionally the need will arise depending on location of G2 and building materials.

Oh, good for you! I should send you a cookie. It's enough of a problem for Directv to acknowledge the problem and telll their employees to not set up a service call, swap the box, or anything else.

All I said was that it wasn't a blanket problem, not everyone has it. I don't have it, neighbor across the street doesn't and my brother in law doesn't. I should send you a Xanax so you calm down.
