Does it make sense to get the ViP222 vs 211

If Dish gives you the first receiver free, would it make sense to get the receiver with capabilities to add a second SD tv (if I ever buy another tv), like the 222. Does Dish charge a second tv fee for this ability with the 222whether you use it or not? I almost feel stupid asking these questions, but don't want to get sand bagged after the fact.

You are not charged anything extra with the duo receiver if it is the only receiver you have whether you have TV 2 connected or not. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.

The thing is, you can convert a VIP 211 into a dvr by paying a one-time $40 fee and adding an external hard drive (up to 1tb in size). You can't do that with a VIP 222. If a dvr isn't important to you, then the VIP 222 is better for future expandibility. Or go with a VIP 722 dual tuner dvr. Of course you then have to pay the $6 monthly dvr fee. The ideal solution would be able to add a hard drive to a VIP 222. Sadly that isn't possible.

Up to 2 TB , at least what I tested yesterday. See the thread http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=2878589&postcount=329

That's pretty good. I knew that my 722K could use a 2tb hdd. But the last time I was on Dish.com it mentioned that the limit was 1tb for the 211/211K. I don't have a 211/211K myself, I just use a 722K with a 1tb hdd attached. Although I have been thinking of getting a 211K for my basement set.

Mike, another thing to consider is your possible future TV will be an HD set, but the TV2 out on the Duo receivers is down-converted to SD. The 222 would be no extra charge; a second 211/211k would be $7/mo but it could also be a DVR included in the $40/acct conversion fee.

We are talking about EHD, not internal drive ... As to internal - when such drive will have a price of 320 GB today.
