My brother is one of those who changes TV providers and cell phones as often as most of us change our socks. He and I were discussing DTV channel access and I had him do some checking of his receiver status. He has an HR44-200 and when he displays his info, it says under access card, "None". I have an HR44-200 and my info lists both a receiver ID and access card. Has the requirement for access cards been eliminated. He wasn't able to get to his receiver, so he could check for a physical card. He did say that the installer told him that cards were no longer needed.

Anyone have any info on this.

Cards are definitely still needed. Is his HR44 still active? There are circumstances (which I dont think would apply to a HR44) where they only want the access card back when deactivating a receiver.

Are you sure he wasn't looking at the UI on a client? I'm not near mine currently, and can't remember if it shows the access card number for the Genie, but clients themselves do not have access cards.
