I have an owned hr10-250, I called dtv with a question about my bill, at the end of the call I was discussing HD receivers and the CSR stated that one of my two owned hr10-250's is elibible for replacement, since I just purchased a new led 1080p HDTV I said sure, the receiver came in today and i was kind of disappointed that it is an hr20-700, I have one of these also. Should I keep it?

Why would you be disappointed that it is an HR20? All the DVRs work the same. It's true that HR22s have bigger hard drives, but coming off an HR10, this will give you about 50% more HD recording space.

Its still currently the best by most people's accounts. It may have a 320GB HD vs the 500GB in the newer 22-23's, but that is so easy to fix by adding a nice fat 2TB external to it its not worth giving up the faster speed and responsiveness of the 20-700 just for the added recording space.

Really need some more info to make a great recommendation, but if the TV that you are attaching it to is HD, then the answer is yes. The HR10-250 is MPEG2 only, and almost all of D*s HD content is delivered in MPEG4.

Hang on to it. Why not? It receives all the MPEG-4 channels, is MRV capable, has a built in OTA solution, and according to some here it's the rock solid unit in the HR2x family.

We have two HR22-100 and one HR20-700. We like the HR20-700 MUCH better than the HR22 models. It doesn't suffer from the slow menus like the HR22's do.

Like others have mentioned, if you want more storage space, just upgrade the drive.

Unless you have SWM, you need the BBC with the HR20.

They did the same thing to me. You will need them unless you have a swm setup. Call them and they will send them to you.

That's the best HR that you can get, if it works. By all means keep it. Why would you be disappointed? That's gold. D* has been trying to "give" me, at no charge, 22s and 23s and I've refused them and bought my own 20-700s on eBay and Craigslist. I drop a large HDD in them and forget about problems. If your's is leased, adding an eSATA is simple. They might not be as pretty as the 21s, 22s and the 23, but they are faster and more reliable.

You can still install it, you just won't get all the programming until the BBCs come in. You'll still have more to watch then on the HR10-250 even without the BBC's.

thanks, I did not know I could still install. Yeah I own the hr10, DTV said they are doing a swap out and I have to send them my old (owned)hr10, does this mean I own the
HR20 now, also they did not send me any instructions or a prepaid label, as the said they would, to ship back the hr10.

I too, am in the process of swapping out 2 HR10-250 for 2 HR20-XXX. In the confirmation email I received from DTV they indicated that if there were no return labels provided I would not have to return my owned HR10s. The new HR20s are due today and even if they have return labels I will not be shipping out my owned HR10s unless they change my account to show that the HR20 they provided are owned by me. Fair is fair. If they expect me to give up units I paid for with my hard earned cash then they have to provide me ownership of the HR20s.

Gets kinda hazy when you swap receivers as you're doing. Press your case if you have to return the 10s. Call Retention and see what they can do for you. If you don't have to return the 10s, you know you'll be getting leased HRs. You're about to enter the "twilight zone".

And told you the new HR would be "leased"?
